Van Gogh & Vino + Weekend Recap

Yes, I do realize it’s Wednesday and that the weekend recap is coming a little late.  Oh well…that’s life sometimes.  In any event, we had an AWESOME weekend.  Friday night, Megan and I went to Van Gogh & Vino.  Van Gogh & Vino is a painting studio for all ages and skill levels.  They offer painting classes and private parties for any occasion.  You get to paint and socialize in a relaxed setting as they teach step-by-step artist instructed classes.  That being said, check out how awesome this experience was:

This was waiting on me when I got there.

Everyone gets to write their name on their apron.

And voila! Check out these masterpieces.

Everyone in the class paints the same scene.  You can of course paint yours the way you like but since I was a virgin at this, I followed the instructor step-by-step.  My masterpiece is now placed in the living room as a Christmas decoration.  I might put it on eBay after the holidays…starting bid at $450,000. Whatcha think?!

But seriously, if there is something like this in your area, DO IT.  I can barely draw a smiley face–but check out what I did here.  You really can follow directions and come up with something not so terrible.

Saturday morning, I taught Ripped Ride and ate some lunch with Matt at the house afterwards.  Then we got ready for our first annual Friendsgiving at Presley’s house.  We had a really fun time, as always.

We ate, drank, and then the girls tried to escape and make it a girls’ night.  We were home within an hour.  Can we say old?  It’s actually really depressing.  But I know for me, I’m not good with spur of the moment plans.  If I’m going out, I plan for it like all week long.  Is that insane?  I guess I have to put myself in that frame of mind.

Sunday, we were completely lazy and it was awesome.  We got our Christmas decorations up and bought our cat children a new play thing.  It seriously made my day.  I know, it doesn’t take much.  But the best part of the weekend was just the fact that it wasn’t so fast-paced like the usual weekends.  I need to make sure I don’t try to cram so much into a 2-day time period.  I end up getting stressed and not giving myself any down-time.

Last night, I taught Ripped Ride and guess what?  I remembered my pants! Success.  Instead of posting my playlists from this weekend here, I have updated my other pages.  Check ’em out.

Well, happidy humpidy.  We shall chat soon!!

Gym Bag Tragedy.

I am usually super prepared when it comes to after work gym activities.  I pack a gym bag daily, even if I know I most likely won’t be able to make it.  Yesterday, I was scheduled to teach a Ripped Ride class at 6:30.  The owner of the gym sent me a text asking if I could also teach the 30 minute Spin class at 6.  I said sure, I definitely need the extra time on the bike, especially considering all the eating that is about to commence.  I went to change in the bathroom at work and dun dun dun!–NO PANTS.  I literally said out loud, “You gotta be shitting me.”  This would have been fine if I didn’t have to be at the gym until 6:30.  Considering it takes almost 50 minutes for me to get from work to the gym, I didn’t have time to go through town and grab pants from the house.  So, I did what every girl on a budget does and went to good ol’ TJ Maxx.  It’s right across from the office and it was a perfect excuse to buy new workout pants. Is there anything you seem to leave out of your gym bag often?  This isn’t the only time I’ve forgotten pants…

Okay, pants dilemma = solved.  Should have been smooth-sailing from there. Nope.  Not for me.  OF COURSE, I got stopped by a train.  It’s 5:41 and I have to be at the gym at 6:00.  Train was gone by 5:48.  I busted it and made it to the gym in 7 minutes.  I just hate it when that happens because I don’t want our clients to think I’m slack.  In any event, we had an awesome jam-up 30 minute class:

photo 3I had so much fun with Feel Again by OneRepublic.   I’m telling ya, you hear a great song, just Shazam it.  Then I don’t have to think so hard when I’m trying to remember the awesome song I heard on the radio and/or TV the other day. You’re welcome 🙂

Ripped Ride was next…I used some of the same songs as the first class but didn’t have any of the same clients.

Va Va Voom was used with the resistance bands.

photo 2

Take Me Home Tonight, Bad Romance, and Get Lucky were also used with resistance bands on the bike.

Matt-made chili and a Full House marathon were just what I needed to end the night.  Tonight, we are eating with my Mom.  Tomorrow, we will be eating at my uncle’s for lunch and then Matt’s dad’s for dinner.  My dad and stepmom actually drove to Texas to see my youngest brother and his wife.  And I think Matt’s mom went camping…?  Anyway, I’m ready to eat and spend time with the fam. Hope y’all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I’m practically a star now…

Dancing With the Aiken Stars was last night!!  You guys have heard me talk about it for months now.  We finally performed last night and get this…WE WON!  Okay, we didn’t win the whole shebang which is based on the number of votes you get, but we did win Judge’s Choice which I think is kinda better…simply because they are basing their judgment on performance.  The votes have been coming in for months now so they weren’t only based on performance. Anyway, I felt like a total diva last night.  I failed miserably at taking pictures but I was just so pumped up and freaking out at the same time, that I didn’t even worry with a camera.  I did take this post- performance awesome selfie with Megan in the dressing room (aka locker room).

photo (3)Megan and her sister, along with my parents and Matt, came out to show some love.  My coworkers also made giant neon colored signs and were a phenomenal support group.  There were actually 3 of us from the same company participating last night so we had a lot of people come out to see us.

As much as I bitched and complained about this experience–the money spent, the time consuming aspect–I would do it all over again.  Not only did we help raise money for a wonderful cause, we freakin’ rocked.  I got to know some of my colleagues in such a different way and we enjoyed spending time together. I’m actually going to miss that.  Now that dance practice won’t be consuming my evenings, I’m ready to get back in the spin & weight training game.  I am teaching spin this Sunday and I’m really looking forward to it.

Tomorrow, we are headed to Athens to watch the Dawgs play.  It’s a 7 pm game…Lord help me.  We might freeze and teaching spin after a night like we will have tomorrow maaaaay not be the brightest idea I’ve ever had.  But it will happen. Well, I’m off to munch on work-Thanksgiving leftovers.  There is basically no reason for me to worry about eating right at this point.  I look forward to this kind of eating all year long!

Who Run the World?

Well, duh.  That’s obvious.  That is also my way of dropping a hint about our routine for Dancing With the Aiken Stars. Next Thursday is the big day!!  We have been practicing A LOT lately.  Last night, we practiced from 8-10.  Since I had time to kill in Aiken and didn’t want to make the haul home, I met Megan and her boyfriend at our favorite sushi joint…

As you can see, I was really trying to get loose for practice 🙂

Last night, we started trying some lifts that we are going to add to the end of our routine.

I also thought I would share these shots with you.  These are some bloopers from our filming and interview we did for the show a few weeks ago.  Yes, I really do feel like a star.

DWTS bloop 2 DWTS bloopThis has honestly been an amazing experience.  Yes, it has been extremely time consuming and expensive.  But it has been worth it.  I am actually really pumped about our performance next week.  And this event raised over $100,000 for 2 local charities last year so I am eager to see what this year brings!!

I did teach spin Tuesday night and here is the playlist I used:

Yes everyone, I have fallen in love with Spotify.  I’ll elaborate more on that later.  But I really feel dumb for not listening to my fellow instructors about this one—a million times easier, cheaper, and way more fun than using iTunes!!  (Sorry Apple, still love ya)

Is anyone else really late to the Spotify train, like me?!  Hope y’all have a great Friday…I’m still trying to catch up from being out for the race last week!!

So, what is a sprint?

After I tackled another lovely Monday at the office, I taught a 30 minute spin class at Oxygen.  Here’s the playlist I used (not including the cool-down):

photo (8)Yes, I do realize I have some of the strangest names for my playlists on the planet.  Who names their playlist “Octoba?!”  The same girl that has one called “Summaaa Runnin'” and I can’t forget about “Spring Fevaaaa,” followed by embarrassing emojis.  Anyway, after class, I decided I needed to get some running in for the day.  I really wanted to run outside because the weather was feeling perfect but since it is getting dark earlier, I decided to head over to Gold’s and hit the treadmill.

I promised Matt I would be home by 8:30 for dinner so I was only able to get in about 3.5 miles.  I tried to make the most of it, though.  Which brings me to my next (first) question…what is a considered a sprint?  The fastest speed I hit last night was 7.4.  I have no idea if that’s good or bad.  But it felt good to me and it felt SAFE.  I’ve gone up to 8 before and thought “you may be that girl that slips and busts her face open in the middle of the gym.”  So I felt good at 7.4…not comfortable, but safe.  To me, that was a sprint.  I would run about a minute at that speed and back it off, over and over again.  So, was that sprinting?  I really have no idea.  I’m hoping you can guide me a bit here.

This morning, poor Matt had to get up for a 6 am meeting on his day off.  There was a good side of this though…he brought me home a sausage biscuit.  Big girl added a slice of cheese to it and put it in the microwave.  How could I say no?  He was being considerate…

So yeah, I just wanted to throw that random piece of information out there. Sausage biscuit.  I know, I floor you with my life.  Please, do tell, what’s the weirdest name of a playlist on your phone or iPod?!

Started from the bottom…

Earlier this year, I could have sang along to that song and meant it…”started from the bottom now <I’m> here…”  Now, not so much.  I trained my butt off last year for my first half-marathon in January.  I really had started from the bottom. Yesterday, I realized I’m back at the bottom.  I told y’all I was going to run 5 miles yesterday.  Well, I made it 5 miles but I wasn’t running the entire time.

I remember a time when 5 miles was my favorite distance…not too long, not too short.  Yesterday, I was good to make it 2 miles before I had to take a break.  2 MILES.  Seriously people.  My grandma can do that for goodness sake.  I ran/walked the next 3 miles until I called it quits.  I was so disappointed and mad at myself.  I had worked so hard before and I let it all go.  Then again, I went out yesterday with the mentality that this was something I had to do.

Training for me becomes a have to, another job, just another thing I must do in order not to fail.  I’ve told y’all before and I’ll say it again…I hate training.  I won’t give up and I will do well in November.  I’ve already committed and paid for the race so there is no looking back.  But after that, I want to get back to MY basics.  I was born (so to speak) to ride a bike (okay, a stationary bike).  I LOVE to spin.  Training for races keeps me off the bike which in turn kinda pisses me off.  Training also keeps me from doing things like yoga and barre, two other activities I love.  I don’t have enough time during the week to fit all of those activities in and still train.

I love the actual races and I am excited for the Savannah half…too bad it isn’t that easy.  Too bad we can’t just get out there and GO.  When I first started running, it was so exciting and new…something I had never pushed my body to do before.  I’ve done the 5Ks, the 10Ks, and now the halfs.  After this, I’m done guys.  At least for a while.  Until the actual urge to race comes back.  If I run, I want it to be because I want to…not because I feel like I have to.  Not to mention, races aren’t cheap.  Okay, you runners out there are probably all pissed at me now and think I’m giving up.  I’m not…running just isn’t a passion of mine just as spinning may not be a passion of yours.

Now that I’m over that rant, I want to show you why I should never wear shorts in public…

photo 2 (2)That red circle encompasses the bruises I found yesterday.  I’ll be out and see cute girls with great looking legs…and then there’s busted ol’ me.  Bruised up, veined up, mosquito bites everywhere.  I’m like a 12 year old boy mixed with an 80 year old lady.  How do I end up like this?  Anyway, after my 5 miles run/walk, I came home to a delicious well-plated meal by Chef Spires…

photo 1 (2)I thought this was a step in the right direction.  We usually have rice or some other starch and he steered away from those.  He seasoned the chicken with some of my box wine (awww yeah) and some Italian dressing.  It was delish.  I’m so glad the Lord paired me with a man that can cook…andddd I’m sure you are wondering why we have paper plates from Papa John’s.  Matt worked there for ten years.  We are on our last pack though…guess I’m going to have to start buying our own!!

Can anyone remotely relate to how I feel about training/running? Maybe you feel that way about another activity. Let me know.

Wanna win a bill?

Ha!  Totally got you with that title, didn’t I?!  Sorry…I kept going blank and couldn’t think of a creative title that remotely applied to this post.

First, I would like to say thanks with regard to my last post.  Not only did I get reassuring and supportive comments, but I received texts and emails from friends wanting to check on me.  You should know how much I appreciate you taking time out of your day to check on me!  Re-prioritizing my life will take some time–it’s a work in progress–as I’m sure it is for most of us.  We don’t always get it right but I’m damn determined to get close.  Now, the pity party has ended and we have finally reached my second favorite day of the week, Wednesday.  (Monday is obviously my fave…said no one ever.)

I taught an hour long Ripped Ride class last night, followed by a very productive gym staff meeting.

photo 1 photo 2

Teaching Ripped Ride is such a struggle for me!  I assume my class doesn’t recognize it but I do.  I think what is hard for me is that we get really pumped up and reach a high heart rate and then it’s time to take the resistance bands down for upper body work which slows us down.  The way I planned this playlist out was 4 songs, then bands, another 2 songs, bands again, 2 songs and bands, then one last sprint to end the class with a bang.  I think it’s hard to get the adrenaline rushing again after you slow down.  It is for me anyway so I have to assume it is for some of our clients as well.  I’m going to keep working at it though.  It may just involve me getting off the bike more and working the floor to motivate our clients.  Any advice here?

Not a lot going on in my world today.  However, I am super excited for a hot lunch date with my main squeeze today. He works in my part of town on Thursdays.  Even though I have to wait until like 1:30-2:00 to eat lunch, a quiet hour out of the house is well worth it.  I hope you guys have an awesome Wednesday!  The weekend isn’t far…
