Gym Bag Tragedy.

I am usually super prepared when it comes to after work gym activities.  I pack a gym bag daily, even if I know I most likely won’t be able to make it.  Yesterday, I was scheduled to teach a Ripped Ride class at 6:30.  The owner of the gym sent me a text asking if I could also teach the 30 minute Spin class at 6.  I said sure, I definitely need the extra time on the bike, especially considering all the eating that is about to commence.  I went to change in the bathroom at work and dun dun dun!–NO PANTS.  I literally said out loud, “You gotta be shitting me.”  This would have been fine if I didn’t have to be at the gym until 6:30.  Considering it takes almost 50 minutes for me to get from work to the gym, I didn’t have time to go through town and grab pants from the house.  So, I did what every girl on a budget does and went to good ol’ TJ Maxx.  It’s right across from the office and it was a perfect excuse to buy new workout pants. Is there anything you seem to leave out of your gym bag often?  This isn’t the only time I’ve forgotten pants…

Okay, pants dilemma = solved.  Should have been smooth-sailing from there. Nope.  Not for me.  OF COURSE, I got stopped by a train.  It’s 5:41 and I have to be at the gym at 6:00.  Train was gone by 5:48.  I busted it and made it to the gym in 7 minutes.  I just hate it when that happens because I don’t want our clients to think I’m slack.  In any event, we had an awesome jam-up 30 minute class:

photo 3I had so much fun with Feel Again by OneRepublic.   I’m telling ya, you hear a great song, just Shazam it.  Then I don’t have to think so hard when I’m trying to remember the awesome song I heard on the radio and/or TV the other day. You’re welcome 🙂

Ripped Ride was next…I used some of the same songs as the first class but didn’t have any of the same clients.

photo 1

Va Va Voom was used with the resistance bands.

photo 2

Take Me Home Tonight, Bad Romance, and Get Lucky were also used with resistance bands on the bike.

Matt-made chili and a Full House marathon were just what I needed to end the night.  Tonight, we are eating with my Mom.  Tomorrow, we will be eating at my uncle’s for lunch and then Matt’s dad’s for dinner.  My dad and stepmom actually drove to Texas to see my youngest brother and his wife.  And I think Matt’s mom went camping…?  Anyway, I’m ready to eat and spend time with the fam. Hope y’all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Who Run the World?

Well, duh.  That’s obvious.  That is also my way of dropping a hint about our routine for Dancing With the Aiken Stars. Next Thursday is the big day!!  We have been practicing A LOT lately.  Last night, we practiced from 8-10.  Since I had time to kill in Aiken and didn’t want to make the haul home, I met Megan and her boyfriend at our favorite sushi joint…

As you can see, I was really trying to get loose for practice 🙂

Last night, we started trying some lifts that we are going to add to the end of our routine.

I also thought I would share these shots with you.  These are some bloopers from our filming and interview we did for the show a few weeks ago.  Yes, I really do feel like a star.

DWTS bloop 2 DWTS bloopThis has honestly been an amazing experience.  Yes, it has been extremely time consuming and expensive.  But it has been worth it.  I am actually really pumped about our performance next week.  And this event raised over $100,000 for 2 local charities last year so I am eager to see what this year brings!!

I did teach spin Tuesday night and here is the playlist I used:

Yes everyone, I have fallen in love with Spotify.  I’ll elaborate more on that later.  But I really feel dumb for not listening to my fellow instructors about this one—a million times easier, cheaper, and way more fun than using iTunes!!  (Sorry Apple, still love ya)

Is anyone else really late to the Spotify train, like me?!  Hope y’all have a great Friday…I’m still trying to catch up from being out for the race last week!!

Guess Who’s Back? + Rock ‘n Roll Half Recap

Wow.  I haven’t published a blog post since my birthday–that was 11 days ago.  I do apologize.  You might not have noticed I was gone…that’s  okay too.  It has been a complete whirlwind in the life of Logan.  I had a great opportunity arise last week and I had to spend a lot of time preparing.  It may be an opportunity I have the pleasure of discussing in further detail–and it may not.  We shall see! (No, I’m not talking babies so we can all hop off that topic.)  I’ve also been teaching spin on Tuesday nights and I’ve spent a lot of time working on our Dancing with the Aiken Stars routine.  Two weeks and counting!!

This weekend, Matt and I packed up and headed to Savannah, GA with some friends.  Myself and Allison signed up for the Savannah Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon, while our friend Alicia signed up for the full marathon (mad props, dawg).

Here’s some footage of my first big race expo experience…

I was quite mesmerized by this volcano…

I’ve talked about this race a few times.  To be completely honest, my body was totally unprepared for this.  But since I knew what to expect mentally, I felt fine about the race.  I say that…but I could tell I was really anxious about it the day before.  I was kinda cranky and so “over it.”  Then, I found out that we had to be parked downtown by 5:30 am, which meant we had a 3:45 wake up time since we had to drive about 30 minutes to the destination.  I thought I was going to throw up.  Surprisingly (to myself and the girls), I woke up and was quite pleasant.  I was actually really excited to race again.  Hell, I hadn’t spend the time training so I wasn’t even bored with running!  I just kept wondering how my body would react…

I felt like I had been up for an entire work day by this point...

I felt like I had been up for an entire work day by this point…

This was such a FUN race.  Probably my favorite half.  I did, however, enjoy the after-race festivities of the Zooma half in January more.  It catered to women…enough said.  My body was fine until miles 7-8 hit.  I had actually predicted this–I knew I could push out a good 6-7 miles.  Miles 8-13 were really one of those light jog, walk-run type things. And I was perfectly fine with that!  My hips were telling me to cool it and I was just having fun.  Sure, the competitive side of me kept saying “push it,” but my hips started hurting so badly that I just couldn’t.  Thank goodness Mich Ultra ever so smartly placed this inflatable around mile 11–I needed the motivation!

photo 5 (5)

All in all, I really enjoyed this race.  I know I talk a lot of smack about running, but my racing days aren’t over.  They are for a while though.  I miss weight training and spinning–and I just don’t have the time in my schedule to fit ALL of those activities in.  So I’m getting back to my basics for a while.

photo 3 (10)

I was super grateful to have Matt and his buddy Chunky there to meet me at the finish line…it helps when you have cheerleaders waiting!!

photo 2 (12)

By the way, Allison PR’d at this race!! Way to go!!

After the race, we stuffed our faces and since we realized we had been up for basically 10 hours, we decided to take a much needed nap.  Then we got all dolled up and hit the town.  I absolutely love Savannah.  Oh, I also have to mention KT Tape here.  Allison uses it and decided to tape up my calves the night before the race since they tend to bother me a lot when I run…no matter how much I stretch.  Survey says?  Ding ding ding!  KT Tape is the way to go. My calves never once bothered me during the race!

photo 4 (6) photo 2 (11) photo 1 (12)

What’s the best/most fun race you have ever run (ran?–sorry, not a grammar goddess).  I feel good now…like I’m getting back to my blog game. Let’s hope I didn’t just jinx myself.  But hey, when things get busy and crazy, you have to make sacrifices.  With all that I had going on, blogging wasn’t a priority. And if that happens from time to time, it’s okay.  It isn’t how I make a living–I basically just want to tell you everything I do 🙂

PS.  I have a little request.  If you’re a person of faith, please please say some serious prayers for a coworker.  He’s a top executive at my company and had a heart attack almost 2 weeks ago.  He’s been in ICU since.  Apparently he went extended periods of time without oxygen to the brain.  You don’t stay in ICU for 2 weeks because of a heart attack and stint.  This is a man that looked like the almost-perfect image of healthy.  Early 60s, walked/ran 2-3 miles EVERY morning on his treadmill before work, and has never, let me repeat–never missed a day of work since the 70s.  Seriously.  It is breaking all of us to see this man not be himself–and we aren’t sure that he will ever return to that state again.  We all work very closely together…our “family” doesn’t seem complete right now.  So please, add this situation to your prayer list.  He needs it.

Quick Weekend Recap

Long time, no chat!  I have been crazy busy lately–more so than usual–especially at work.  So here is a quick recap of what we did this weekend…

photo (2)

Friday night, I attended a friend’s rehearsal dinner.  My friend Nicole (left) was a bridesmaid in the wedding and she asked me to be her date.

photo 5

Delicious shrimp & grits for dinner.

Y’all know how awkward I feel taking pictures of my food.  Well, this plate sure looked pretty.  And I had 3 glasses of wine by this point…YOLO.

photo (2)

Saturday, Matt and I headed to Clemson, along with Matt’s buddy Chunky, for some tailgating and ticket-finding.  Thankfully we didn’t buy any tickets. They were super pricey and Clemson got clobbered.  We had an awesome time though.  It was actually a really bad Saturday for college football–Georgia, Clemson, and South Carolina all lost…although, I’m not all that upset about Carolina’s loss…

photo 2 photo 3Like I said, so much fun.  We met up with some old buddies from high school that don’t live nearby anymore.  I’ve known most of these guys since elementary school.  It was nice to catch up.  And yes, I was the only girl around.  Good thing I’m like one of the guys.

Sunday, I headed to my friend’s church to help set up for a fall festival they were hosting.

photo 1Then I headed over to the gym for the 90 minute spin class we were having with proceeds benefiting a local charity. THEN, it was off to dance practice.  I didn’t get a chance to slow down at all this weekend, so last night, I kept it low key.  My body was in pain from 90 minutes of spinning AND an hour of dance practice. So I opted to stay in and try to transition my summer wardrobe to the attic and get my fall apparel put in the closet.  I’m half way there. Matt and I also went Halloween costume shopping and had some fun poking at inappropriate costumes.  Yes we wait until the last minute.  Oh, by the way, am I the ONLY chick that doesn’t believe in dressing like a complete hooch for Halloween? Geez, we aren’t in college anymore.  Cover.  It.  Up.

Okay…I’m off to a Chamber lunch now.  I hope y’all are having a good week!!

Walking on a dream…

If you’ve seen the movie Hall Pass, then you know exactly which song I’m talking about…if not, consider this me making your Wednesday a whole lot better by clicking here: Empire of the Sun.  (Oh PS. This is a great song to use for climbing hills on the bike) Anywho, I keep having these crazy dreams.  I’m getting married again in each of them…but to the same man (my husband, duh).  Same people are there, same venue, same preacher, same dress, same everything.  So dream whisperers, what is my subconscious trying to tell me?  The workout side of me says, “I’m taunting you with that dress because we all know you’ll never fit in it again.”  The common sense side of me says, “You’re wedding was just that awesome that your brain wants to re-live it every night.”  Who knows…

I haven’t done much in the workout world since hot yoga on Sunday.  I set my alarm for 5 am today so I could get up and go for a run before work but considering I dropped my phone on the floor in my sleep last night, then picked it up and shoved it under 3 pillows this morning, I woke up at 6:35.  Whoops. Crazy enough, I’ve been getting super great sleep.  I’m talking like a full 8 hours for once in my life (yayyyy, no more school!).  But I’m having such a hard time getting up.  I used to get up and be at work by 8 every morning…now it’s more like 8:45.  I don’t know what the deal is. But I did bring my workout gear with me today and I plan to hit the track across from my office right after work.  I’m going to hit 5 miles.  Yes, it will happen.  Then I have the Color Run on Saturday which is a 5K, and I plan to get up Sunday and run 6 miles (okay, that’s a tentative plan).  If not Sunday, I have to hit 6 on Monday and 7 by next weekend.  I’ve got to step up the long runs to prepare for the half in November.

I’m super excited for the Color Run this weekend.  Here are some photos from last year’s race in Columbia with Presley, her husband, and another couple…

photo 1 (1)

Ohhhh me and Presley…there are no words to describe.

photo 3

I have to throw Matt under the bus a little…where is all his paint?!

photo 2 photo 4

Fortunately, this year’s race is in our hometown so we don’t have to travel.  This is such a great fun run.  It isn’t timed…no pressure…just fun.  So if you’ve never done a color run, now is the time.

My friend Nicole and I try to get together once a week for a workout or dinner or something.  Well last night we opted for dinner.  We used to go to Wild Wings on Tuesdays for their 2-for-Tuesdays but we opted for Hooters this time.  It was bike night and I’ve never been around anything like it.  Nicole’s boyfriend is a biker so they introduced me to everyone in their ‘club’ and they were all super nice.  It was definitely a different experience for me.  People have their perceptions of bikers and I even had my own–but meeting them last night and seeing how they act just like regular people forced me to change my mind.

photo 1Alright I’m off to make Wednesday my biotch.  Y’all have a good one and I will be running 5 miles today!

So yeah, maybe I should start running…

Before we get started, I wanted to show you what one looks like after hot yoga

photo (35)

I know, I know…hot right?  Hot as in temperature hot.  I got home from Columbia around 1:30 today and decided since my hubby was going golfing, I was going to hot yoga.  I am so glad I did.  It was just what I needed to wind down a great weekend.  (By the way, if you want your hair to look this good, don’t brush it for about 24 hours…works wonders.)

So I mentioned that I went to Columbia…well before that, I played in a bocce ball tournament yesterday at the Aiken Mini Bluegrass Festival. I had definitely never played bocce ball before yesterday.  So yeah, we were totally in it to win it.  I played as a member of our Young Professionals group–and money from the tournament went to a good cause (United Way), so I didn’t mind getting roped into this.

photo 1Here is me with our team…Bocces B Crazy.  Clever right?!  (The guys came up with that…)

After I wrapped up at the Bluegrass Festival, my cousin, aunt, and I headed to Columbia for a quick little girls’ trip.  Our aunt had been dying to escape the reality of motherhood and really needed a break from the pre-teen and toddler woes. Megan went to school in Columbia so she wanted to take us to her favorite sushi place.  Oh and did I mention Megan worked as an intern at a hotel while she was in school?  Hellloooo free hotel room.  I holla atcha.

photo 3

We hitched a ride with the hotel’s free (cha-ching!) shuttle and headed to Sakitumi.  I wasn’t very crazy about their sushi…probably because I’m used to eating flash-fried rolls.  However,  we did order some saki.  I’m not sure how you are used to drinking saki, but this is the biggest thing of saki I’ve ever seen…

photo 2That’s a carafe full of saki.  Wow.  After dinner, we headed to Tin Roof and ran into some friends from home.  I wasn’t even gone from home for a full 24 hours but it was a great little getaway.  One night is about all I need…I do tend to miss the hubby (I’m a total sap).

photo 1 (2) photo 2 (1)Okay, now it’s time to break the bad news to everyone…I have a half-marathon to run in 6 weeks!  Have I started training?  Ahhhh, nope.  Am I starting to get nervous?  Ahhhh, yep.  Can I still get my butt in gear and make it happen? I think so.  For some people, 6 weeks may be plenty of time.  But it isn’t for me. Between work, home life, family, and teaching spin, I typically only have time for 2 runs a week (when I actually stick with it), one of those being a long run. So it’s time for me to get down to business.  I have just kept telling myself “it’s okay, you ran two of these before…you can do it again.”  I also trained for the first 2. Duh.  I was really hoping the race I was supposed to run last week was going to give me my kick-start into training mode.  But we all saw how that turned out.  In any event, it’s time to get to work.  Have you ever had to train for a race in a short amount of time?  Help me tell myself I can do this.

Now…I’ve had my hot yoga, dose of Wal-Mart, and a plate of Matt-made nachos. Time for Boardwalk Empire…annnnd guess what else is back?  Eastbound & Down!!  Night made.

It’s the weekend baby! & time to race…

It’s Friday…it’s payday…and it’s the day before race day…

I told y’all that I ran on Tuesday…I have been sore ever since!  Muscles that haven’t been activated in quite some time have been screaming at me for 2 days. I wanted to get another short run in this week before the race but since I’ve been so sore, I opted out.  I definitely don’t want to be sore for the race tomorrow.  I feel like such a wimp…I worked so hard last year to train for 2 half-marathons and now I can barely run 3 miles without whining.  Oh well, I knew what the consequences would be of taking time off and now I’m living and breathing them.  Just gotta keep moving forward!

The race tomorrow is being held to benefit a local resident who was involved in a terrible attack a few months ago.  I have a feeling much of our town will show up in support.

So, now that it’s almost race time, I have to prepare.  I have my “outfit” picked out including the matching headband, my GPS is charging, chap stick, knee strap and body glide are on deck, and my playlist is ready to go.  Oh, and I also have to chew gum while I run.  Don’t come at me with your safety stuff…I know.  But it’s a thing.  What are your race day essentials?  Do you have a weird (or let’s say ‘odd’) routine before or while racing?

As soon as the race is over, I have to haul my tail to the house for a quick shower and a possible blow-drying of the hair.  We have a 12:30 football game to get to! Needless to say, I won’t be sticking around for awards and stuff but it’s not like I’m going to win anything.  That’s not what my goal is anyway.  I’m not being negative but winning isn’t my goal–I know I don’t work hard enough to actually win and that’s totally okay with me!  If I finish in under 30 minutes, I’m a happy girl–that is my goal. Tonight, we head to the usual Mexican where I WILL NOT partake in margarita drinking…maybe a beer or two.  And we will be celebrating Bess’ birthday.

The birthday girl is on the far right.

The birthday girl is on the far left.

I need to be on my best behavior so I will feel up and at it in the AM.  However, on a side note, I did run my second 5K after drinking too much wine one night…it actually helped me detox 😉

In any event, I can’t wait to be at my favorite place in the world tomorrow…
