How The Grinch Restored Christmas

Happy Friday, y’all.  We made it.  It has been a looooong week.  Guess we were spoiled by the holiday last week, huh? This morning, I was up and at ’em early for a Chamber breakfast.  There is a program or speaker each month and for December, the Chamber always promotes the importance of supporting non-profit organizations, especially during this time of year.  Today, the program was How The Grinch Restored Christmas.  Organizations such as Golden Harvest Food Bank and The Salvation Army all participated in telling us a wonderful Christmas story.

Stink, stank, stunk!

photo 2 (7)

This was one sexy Grinch.  All of the participants did a wonderful job and it was a great way to start a Friday.  They told such a sweet story and it’s true…we really do need to remember that non-profits need our support more than ever.  I’m a firm believer in charitable giving.  I also believe you have to do your research on the organization first!

Anyway, I thought I would share some really random facts with you today. There is absolutely nothing substantial to read here so feel free to stop reading.

This is what my hair looks like if I don’t straighten it.

Yummy.

Yummy.

Cats, 1.  Water bottle, 0.  We reached a record in our household, though.  The tree skirt stayed down for 3 whole days this year!  We are usually lucky to have it down for 30 minutes before they start their decoration destruction.  I felt like a winning mom when I put the water bottle down in front of the tree skirt this year.  I thought I had found a sure-fire solution to our decoration destruction problem.  You made it 3 days, cat mom.  Good job.

My husband is a damn good cook.  He brought the Japanese to the house last night.  And by “brought,” I mean he actually made it.  Fresh veggies and all.  He even bought some Yum Yum Sauce.  You know, white sauce at the Japanese restaurant.  This could have been healthy…until I drowned it in Yum Yum.

photo 5 (3)

And this is my cool new trivet.  I ordered this from a coworker’s kid.  I actually think I purchased this with the intent of gifting it but I realized it’s super cool and I need it.  We really do need more than one trivet.  Especially with all that cooking I do…

All the wine I drank in order to get these corks was well worth it.  See, start projects that need you to drink.  That’s the key…but drink responsibly.

Well, that’s a wrap for me today.  One of my very dear friends, Beth, gave birth to her second sweet baby girl this morning.  Emily weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces, and has a head full of curly dark hair.  I can’t wait to meet her after work today! Have a great Friday 🙂

Van Gogh & Vino + Weekend Recap

Yes, I do realize it’s Wednesday and that the weekend recap is coming a little late.  Oh well…that’s life sometimes.  In any event, we had an AWESOME weekend.  Friday night, Megan and I went to Van Gogh & Vino.  Van Gogh & Vino is a painting studio for all ages and skill levels.  They offer painting classes and private parties for any occasion.  You get to paint and socialize in a relaxed setting as they teach step-by-step artist instructed classes.  That being said, check out how awesome this experience was:

This was waiting on me when I got there.

vangogh2

Bring your own wine means I bring on the classy.

vangogh3

Everyone gets to write their name on their apron.

vangogh4

And voila! Check out these masterpieces.

Everyone in the class paints the same scene.  You can of course paint yours the way you like but since I was a virgin at this, I followed the instructor step-by-step.  My masterpiece is now placed in the living room as a Christmas decoration.  I might put it on eBay after the holidays…starting bid at $450,000. Whatcha think?!

But seriously, if there is something like this in your area, DO IT.  I can barely draw a smiley face–but check out what I did here.  You really can follow directions and come up with something not so terrible.

Saturday morning, I taught Ripped Ride and ate some lunch with Matt at the house afterwards.  Then we got ready for our first annual Friendsgiving at Presley’s house.  We had a really fun time, as always.

meandmatt

We ate, drank, and then the girls tried to escape and make it a girls’ night.  We were home within an hour.  Can we say old?  It’s actually really depressing.  But I know for me, I’m not good with spur of the moment plans.  If I’m going out, I plan for it like all week long.  Is that insane?  I guess I have to put myself in that frame of mind.

Sunday, we were completely lazy and it was awesome.  We got our Christmas decorations up and bought our cat children a new play thing.  It seriously made my day.  I know, it doesn’t take much.  But the best part of the weekend was just the fact that it wasn’t so fast-paced like the usual weekends.  I need to make sure I don’t try to cram so much into a 2-day time period.  I end up getting stressed and not giving myself any down-time.

Last night, I taught Ripped Ride and guess what?  I remembered my pants! Success.  Instead of posting my playlists from this weekend here, I have updated my other pages.  Check ’em out.

Well, happidy humpidy.  We shall chat soon!!

My favorite place on Earth…

Sanford Stadium is by far my favorite place on Earth.  I’ve traveled abroad, seen beautiful places, but Sanford Stadium is MY favorite place to be.  Matt and I, along with another couple, went to Athens Saturday to watch the Dawgs play Kentucky.  The only bad part = 7 pm game combined with cold temperatures.  I love night games…but not November night games.  The weather during the day was perfect.  Not too cold, not too hot.  We had a great time.  And of course, the Dawgs won.  Unfortunately, that sweet, good-looking Aaron Murray wasn’t able to finish his last home game as a UGA football player.  Actually, he wasn’t able to finish his last game of his college career at all due to tearing his ACL.  In any event…

calli cold

Yeah, it was COLD.

The couple with us got engaged last week…YAY! (I definitely told them “may God be with you” 🙂

Where is YOUR favorite place on Earth??  What makes it awesome??

The next day, Matt and I had lunch, went grocery shopping, and then I had a spin class to teach.  Here is the playlist I used:

photo 2 (2) photo 1 (2)Yes, as you can see, I do love Miley’s new album.  Despite what the critics say, I think this girl is a genius.  Yes, she needs to class it up a bit.  But as an artist, she has made some bold but beneficial decisions.  I mean, think about it, we are all still talking about what a tragic mess she is, right?!  My point exactly.  PS. Watch The Miley Movement if you haven’t already.  Might change your mind 🙂

I’ll be teaching a Ripped Ride class tonight, so I will have another playlist for you tomorrow with some new songs I am trying out.  I know we all have a busy week ahead of us with Thanksgiving in just a few days.  I’m looking forward to a lot of things later this week…lots of food and family time Wednesday & Thursday, Van Gogh & Vino session with my cousin Friday night (she convinced me that they CAN teach me how to paint), and our first annual Friendsgiving with Presley on Saturday.  This event also requires me to make a few dishes for our dinner–can I just bring the booze?!  🙂

Who Run the World?

Well, duh.  That’s obvious.  That is also my way of dropping a hint about our routine for Dancing With the Aiken Stars. Next Thursday is the big day!!  We have been practicing A LOT lately.  Last night, we practiced from 8-10.  Since I had time to kill in Aiken and didn’t want to make the haul home, I met Megan and her boyfriend at our favorite sushi joint…

As you can see, I was really trying to get loose for practice 🙂

Last night, we started trying some lifts that we are going to add to the end of our routine.

I also thought I would share these shots with you.  These are some bloopers from our filming and interview we did for the show a few weeks ago.  Yes, I really do feel like a star.

DWTS bloop 2 DWTS bloopThis has honestly been an amazing experience.  Yes, it has been extremely time consuming and expensive.  But it has been worth it.  I am actually really pumped about our performance next week.  And this event raised over $100,000 for 2 local charities last year so I am eager to see what this year brings!!

I did teach spin Tuesday night and here is the playlist I used:

Yes everyone, I have fallen in love with Spotify.  I’ll elaborate more on that later.  But I really feel dumb for not listening to my fellow instructors about this one—a million times easier, cheaper, and way more fun than using iTunes!!  (Sorry Apple, still love ya)

Is anyone else really late to the Spotify train, like me?!  Hope y’all have a great Friday…I’m still trying to catch up from being out for the race last week!!

Guess Who’s Back? + Rock ‘n Roll Half Recap

Wow.  I haven’t published a blog post since my birthday–that was 11 days ago.  I do apologize.  You might not have noticed I was gone…that’s  okay too.  It has been a complete whirlwind in the life of Logan.  I had a great opportunity arise last week and I had to spend a lot of time preparing.  It may be an opportunity I have the pleasure of discussing in further detail–and it may not.  We shall see! (No, I’m not talking babies so we can all hop off that topic.)  I’ve also been teaching spin on Tuesday nights and I’ve spent a lot of time working on our Dancing with the Aiken Stars routine.  Two weeks and counting!!

This weekend, Matt and I packed up and headed to Savannah, GA with some friends.  Myself and Allison signed up for the Savannah Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon, while our friend Alicia signed up for the full marathon (mad props, dawg).

I was quite mesmerized by this volcano…

I’ve talked about this race a few times.  To be completely honest, my body was totally unprepared for this.  But since I knew what to expect mentally, I felt fine about the race.  I say that…but I could tell I was really anxious about it the day before.  I was kinda cranky and so “over it.”  Then, I found out that we had to be parked downtown by 5:30 am, which meant we had a 3:45 wake up time since we had to drive about 30 minutes to the destination.  I thought I was going to throw up.  Surprisingly (to myself and the girls), I woke up and was quite pleasant.  I was actually really excited to race again.  Hell, I hadn’t spend the time training so I wasn’t even bored with running!  I just kept wondering how my body would react…

I felt like I had been up for an entire work day by this point...

I felt like I had been up for an entire work day by this point…

This was such a FUN race.  Probably my favorite half.  I did, however, enjoy the after-race festivities of the Zooma half in January more.  It catered to women…enough said.  My body was fine until miles 7-8 hit.  I had actually predicted this–I knew I could push out a good 6-7 miles.  Miles 8-13 were really one of those light jog, walk-run type things. And I was perfectly fine with that!  My hips were telling me to cool it and I was just having fun.  Sure, the competitive side of me kept saying “push it,” but my hips started hurting so badly that I just couldn’t.  Thank goodness Mich Ultra ever so smartly placed this inflatable around mile 11–I needed the motivation!

photo 5 (5)

All in all, I really enjoyed this race.  I know I talk a lot of smack about running, but my racing days aren’t over.  They are for a while though.  I miss weight training and spinning–and I just don’t have the time in my schedule to fit ALL of those activities in.  So I’m getting back to my basics for a while.

photo 3 (10)

I was super grateful to have Matt and his buddy Chunky there to meet me at the finish line…it helps when you have cheerleaders waiting!!

photo 2 (12)

By the way, Allison PR’d at this race!! Way to go!!

After the race, we stuffed our faces and since we realized we had been up for basically 10 hours, we decided to take a much needed nap.  Then we got all dolled up and hit the town.  I absolutely love Savannah.  Oh, I also have to mention KT Tape here.  Allison uses it and decided to tape up my calves the night before the race since they tend to bother me a lot when I run…no matter how much I stretch.  Survey says?  Ding ding ding!  KT Tape is the way to go. My calves never once bothered me during the race!

photo 4 (6) photo 2 (11) photo 1 (12)

What’s the best/most fun race you have ever run (ran?–sorry, not a grammar goddess).  I feel good now…like I’m getting back to my blog game. Let’s hope I didn’t just jinx myself.  But hey, when things get busy and crazy, you have to make sacrifices.  With all that I had going on, blogging wasn’t a priority. And if that happens from time to time, it’s okay.  It isn’t how I make a living–I basically just want to tell you everything I do 🙂

PS.  I have a little request.  If you’re a person of faith, please please say some serious prayers for a coworker.  He’s a top executive at my company and had a heart attack almost 2 weeks ago.  He’s been in ICU since.  Apparently he went extended periods of time without oxygen to the brain.  You don’t stay in ICU for 2 weeks because of a heart attack and stint.  This is a man that looked like the almost-perfect image of healthy.  Early 60s, walked/ran 2-3 miles EVERY morning on his treadmill before work, and has never, let me repeat–never missed a day of work since the 70s.  Seriously.  It is breaking all of us to see this man not be himself–and we aren’t sure that he will ever return to that state again.  We all work very closely together…our “family” doesn’t seem complete right now.  So please, add this situation to your prayer list.  He needs it.

I’m just being Miley…

I’d like to think I was being “modest Miley” this weekend.  I promised you Miley pictures so here they are:

I’m actually thrilled that the Halloween festivities have come and gone because now I have something even better to look forward to…my birthday!  I was supposed to be a Halloween baby.  Maybe that’s what’s wrong with me…

I hope y’all are off to a good Monday (if there is such a thing).  Remember that we all woke up today and there is reason to be thankful for that!  After work, I have an event from 6:30-9:30 tonight.  It’s called Professor Witchcock’s Spectacular Illusions & Sideshow.  Yet another committee I was sucked into–but I don’t mean that negatively.  It’s been a fun experience.  Just took up a lot of my time this weekend getting prepared.  And I’m having an extra long day today. See, how do you fit a workout in on a day like this?  Sorry no, 5 am isn’t gonna happen when I’m basically working from 8 am until 10:30 pm.  I guess it all depends on how bad you want it.  Guess I don’t want it that bad. Remember–mental stability!!

The Things You See at the Fair…

Get ready for picture overload, y’all.  I’ll try to keep the commentary to a minimum (but I’m not making any promises).  After my friend Beth’s baby shower brunch yesterday morning, Matt and I decided to hit up a local fair.  But first, check out this hot mama…

photo 2 (6)

Hey girl, heeyyyyy

photo 1 (7)Now, about the fair.  We had the BEST time.  I have noticed lately that Matt and I haven’t been doing things alone much.  There was a time when we did everything alone and didn’t socialize much.  Now I feel like we are socializing a little too much, if there is such a thing.  I miss our one-on-one date time.  Any other wives/fiances/girlfriends/husband/boyfriends out there that feel the same way?  Anyway, we had such a great day.  The weather was perfect.  As soon as we walked in the gate (which one of us got in for free!–thanks to the nice parking lot guy), we hit up the first food station we saw.

photo 3 (4)It was glorious.  Look at those beautiful colors.  Matt got an enormous corn dog (but we couldn’t handle all the batter) and I got a chicken on a stick basket.  As we sat there eating, I noticed a girl taking a break from whatever carni job she was doing.  I also noticed that fact that she was taking a selfie of not her face…but a tattoo on her BOOB.  I’m talking it was OUT there.  I almost saw the whole thing.  As a side note, my favorite quote of the day, “I can’t wait for the livestock exhibit afert we eat all this.”  After we recovered from all of that, we just started walking and people watching.  After we made one loop around, we decided we weren’t ready to end our date just yet.  So we took another loop and I am so glad we did–we made it just in time for the best animal show I’ve ever seen.  I was like a kid on Christmas morning.

photo 4 (2)

I can’t wait to post this on a Wednesday…

photo 3 (6)

Mini horses…now I want one.

photo 2

Yep, that tiger is jumping through fire. You go boy.

photo 3 photo 2 (8) photo 1 photo 1 (9) photo 1 (8)

I’m also glad we took another loop around because the livestock exhibit had opened.  It was closed our first time around.  I found the cow I want.  She seems cute.  Reminds me of my cat…don’t ask.

photo 3 (5)We also saw a brand new baby…this mama was cleaning up her calf that was born at 4:30 yesterday morning.  The guys running the show said it was very rare to witness this!

photo (37)

Yesterday was seriously just one of my favorite days with Matt.  We are going to have to remember to do things like that more often, just the two of us.  I also realized we have an obsession with food.  I mean, I always knew that we had a love for food–and usually not the good kind.  But we seriously walked around the fair saying “OMG, a fried oreo.  OMG, giant slices of pizza.  OMG, quesadillas!  OMMMMGGGG, a doughnut burger!”  We refrained from partaking in any extras since we ate as soon as we got there.  But next time, we are going to take it easy.  Just get a little something from like every food stand.  Because that’s normal.  And healthy.

photo 5 (2)

Alright, I’m off to watch the Sunday usuals.  I promise I’ll have Miley pics soon.  I took NONE with my own phone.  Fail.  Hope you had a happy Sunday!
