Van Gogh & Vino + Weekend Recap

Yes, I do realize it’s Wednesday and that the weekend recap is coming a little late.  Oh well…that’s life sometimes.  In any event, we had an AWESOME weekend.  Friday night, Megan and I went to Van Gogh & Vino.  Van Gogh & Vino is a painting studio for all ages and skill levels.  They offer painting classes and private parties for any occasion.  You get to paint and socialize in a relaxed setting as they teach step-by-step artist instructed classes.  That being said, check out how awesome this experience was:

This was waiting on me when I got there.

Bring your own wine means I bring on the classy.

Everyone gets to write their name on their apron.

And voila! Check out these masterpieces.

Everyone in the class paints the same scene.  You can of course paint yours the way you like but since I was a virgin at this, I followed the instructor step-by-step.  My masterpiece is now placed in the living room as a Christmas decoration.  I might put it on eBay after the holidays…starting bid at $450,000. Whatcha think?!

But seriously, if there is something like this in your area, DO IT.  I can barely draw a smiley face–but check out what I did here.  You really can follow directions and come up with something not so terrible.

Saturday morning, I taught Ripped Ride and ate some lunch with Matt at the house afterwards.  Then we got ready for our first annual Friendsgiving at Presley’s house.  We had a really fun time, as always.

We ate, drank, and then the girls tried to escape and make it a girls’ night.  We were home within an hour.  Can we say old?  It’s actually really depressing.  But I know for me, I’m not good with spur of the moment plans.  If I’m going out, I plan for it like all week long.  Is that insane?  I guess I have to put myself in that frame of mind.

Sunday, we were completely lazy and it was awesome.  We got our Christmas decorations up and bought our cat children a new play thing.  It seriously made my day.  I know, it doesn’t take much.  But the best part of the weekend was just the fact that it wasn’t so fast-paced like the usual weekends.  I need to make sure I don’t try to cram so much into a 2-day time period.  I end up getting stressed and not giving myself any down-time.

Last night, I taught Ripped Ride and guess what?  I remembered my pants! Success.  Instead of posting my playlists from this weekend here, I have updated my other pages.  Check ’em out.

Well, happidy humpidy.  We shall chat soon!!

Gym Bag Tragedy.

I am usually super prepared when it comes to after work gym activities.  I pack a gym bag daily, even if I know I most likely won’t be able to make it.  Yesterday, I was scheduled to teach a Ripped Ride class at 6:30.  The owner of the gym sent me a text asking if I could also teach the 30 minute Spin class at 6.  I said sure, I definitely need the extra time on the bike, especially considering all the eating that is about to commence.  I went to change in the bathroom at work and dun dun dun!–NO PANTS.  I literally said out loud, “You gotta be shitting me.”  This would have been fine if I didn’t have to be at the gym until 6:30.  Considering it takes almost 50 minutes for me to get from work to the gym, I didn’t have time to go through town and grab pants from the house.  So, I did what every girl on a budget does and went to good ol’ TJ Maxx.  It’s right across from the office and it was a perfect excuse to buy new workout pants. Is there anything you seem to leave out of your gym bag often?  This isn’t the only time I’ve forgotten pants…

Okay, pants dilemma = solved.  Should have been smooth-sailing from there. Nope.  Not for me.  OF COURSE, I got stopped by a train.  It’s 5:41 and I have to be at the gym at 6:00.  Train was gone by 5:48.  I busted it and made it to the gym in 7 minutes.  I just hate it when that happens because I don’t want our clients to think I’m slack.  In any event, we had an awesome jam-up 30 minute class:

photo 3I had so much fun with Feel Again by OneRepublic.   I’m telling ya, you hear a great song, just Shazam it.  Then I don’t have to think so hard when I’m trying to remember the awesome song I heard on the radio and/or TV the other day. You’re welcome 🙂

Ripped Ride was next…I used some of the same songs as the first class but didn’t have any of the same clients.

Va Va Voom was used with the resistance bands.

Take Me Home Tonight, Bad Romance, and Get Lucky were also used with resistance bands on the bike.

Matt-made chili and a Full House marathon were just what I needed to end the night.  Tonight, we are eating with my Mom.  Tomorrow, we will be eating at my uncle’s for lunch and then Matt’s dad’s for dinner.  My dad and stepmom actually drove to Texas to see my youngest brother and his wife.  And I think Matt’s mom went camping…?  Anyway, I’m ready to eat and spend time with the fam. Hope y’all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

My favorite place on Earth…

Sanford Stadium is by far my favorite place on Earth.  I’ve traveled abroad, seen beautiful places, but Sanford Stadium is MY favorite place to be.  Matt and I, along with another couple, went to Athens Saturday to watch the Dawgs play Kentucky.  The only bad part = 7 pm game combined with cold temperatures.  I love night games…but not November night games.  The weather during the day was perfect.  Not too cold, not too hot.  We had a great time.  And of course, the Dawgs won.  Unfortunately, that sweet, good-looking Aaron Murray wasn’t able to finish his last home game as a UGA football player.  Actually, he wasn’t able to finish his last game of his college career at all due to tearing his ACL.  In any event…

calli cold

Yeah, it was COLD.

The couple with us got engaged last week…YAY! (I definitely told them “may God be with you” 🙂

Where is YOUR favorite place on Earth??  What makes it awesome??

The next day, Matt and I had lunch, went grocery shopping, and then I had a spin class to teach.  Here is the playlist I used:

photo 2 (2) photo 1 (2)Yes, as you can see, I do love Miley’s new album.  Despite what the critics say, I think this girl is a genius.  Yes, she needs to class it up a bit.  But as an artist, she has made some bold but beneficial decisions.  I mean, think about it, we are all still talking about what a tragic mess she is, right?!  My point exactly.  PS. Watch The Miley Movement if you haven’t already.  Might change your mind 🙂

I’ll be teaching a Ripped Ride class tonight, so I will have another playlist for you tomorrow with some new songs I am trying out.  I know we all have a busy week ahead of us with Thanksgiving in just a few days.  I’m looking forward to a lot of things later this week…lots of food and family time Wednesday & Thursday, Van Gogh & Vino session with my cousin Friday night (she convinced me that they CAN teach me how to paint), and our first annual Friendsgiving with Presley on Saturday.  This event also requires me to make a few dishes for our dinner–can I just bring the booze?!  🙂

Who Run the World?

Well, duh.  That’s obvious.  That is also my way of dropping a hint about our routine for Dancing With the Aiken Stars. Next Thursday is the big day!!  We have been practicing A LOT lately.  Last night, we practiced from 8-10.  Since I had time to kill in Aiken and didn’t want to make the haul home, I met Megan and her boyfriend at our favorite sushi joint…

As you can see, I was really trying to get loose for practice 🙂

Last night, we started trying some lifts that we are going to add to the end of our routine.

I also thought I would share these shots with you.  These are some bloopers from our filming and interview we did for the show a few weeks ago.  Yes, I really do feel like a star.

DWTS bloop 2 DWTS bloopThis has honestly been an amazing experience.  Yes, it has been extremely time consuming and expensive.  But it has been worth it.  I am actually really pumped about our performance next week.  And this event raised over $100,000 for 2 local charities last year so I am eager to see what this year brings!!

I did teach spin Tuesday night and here is the playlist I used:

Yes everyone, I have fallen in love with Spotify.  I’ll elaborate more on that later.  But I really feel dumb for not listening to my fellow instructors about this one—a million times easier, cheaper, and way more fun than using iTunes!!  (Sorry Apple, still love ya)

Is anyone else really late to the Spotify train, like me?!  Hope y’all have a great Friday…I’m still trying to catch up from being out for the race last week!!

Let’s Catch Up…

I miss you guys.  I’ve been MIA all week–we are under some serious stress at work right now with deadlines next week. And I’ve had something going on every single night this week.  Monday, I played bartender at a Halloween event.  Just call me fancy…

Spooky Screwdriver

Tuesday night I had filming for Dancing with the Stars.  You know how they do in the real show…they show video footage of practices, interviews, etc. Remember that horrible picture I complained about so much?  The photographer may or may not have totally hooked me up before posters were printed…thanks homie.

Wednesday, dance practice.

Last night, spin class.  Here’s my Halloween playlist that incorporates ‘regular’ music too…this is from set-up to cool down.

Oh and I have to throw in a photo of the cutest clown you’ll ever see…

This is my niece Chloe.  She lives in New Mexico right now but her mommy sent us this photo last night.  Sassy pants!

And tonight, last but certainly not least, is my special night.  Okay, it’s been my special day since 5 am when my husband woke me up saying “Happy Birthday” (thanks babe).  Yup, it’s my birthday.  The big 26.  I’m officially in my late 20s. No, I don’t say mid-20s anything.  This is it.  And yes Presley, enjoy the next 5 months of your youth…

I have so many topics jotted down that I want to discuss but I just can’t find the time right now to dive in.  I have some birthday festivities tonight, thanks to my amazing cousin Megan who coordinated everything, a wedding tomorrow night, and dance practice Sunday.  I hope you will hear from me soon!  Happy Friday!

“I run from the dark, the dark, the dark…”

If you sing that to the tune of Lady Gaga’s Applause, it sounds awesome.  Last night, I got home from work a little after 6:00.  I had decided that I was going on a date with the pavement and a bad ass playlist and nothing was going to stop me. I was actually in the mood for running and I was ready to bring it.  I knew I needed to get going quickly, though, because it is starting to get dark earlier.  I know I might seem tough, but I’m a sissy when it comes to being in the dark…alone.  I headed to the Greenway, which is a paved trail that literally runs from one side of our city to the other.  This was fine and dandy for ohhhhh, about 5 minutes.

I was already booking it because I knew it was going to get dark pretty quickly and I wanted to at least get in 5-6 miles. Well that wasn’t happening outside.  I ran almost a mile and started to get really spooked so I turned around and hauled butt back to my starting point.  I ended up running my fastest 1.5 miles yet (right at 14 minutes) simply because I was running out of sheer terror.  And okay, 1.5 miles in 14 minutes might sound pretty crummy to most of you but I’m a 10 minute miler all the way around.  So I was impressed with myself…especially considering I haven’t been training like I should be.  I came to the conclusion that if my next half-marathon (November) was run in the dark and complete silence, I would come in under 2 hours (not).  But seriously, some of you can run in the dark.  I, on the other hand, can’t handle it.  It’s a great way to push yourself though.

Since I hadn’t been able to get my 5-6 miles in on the pavement, I hurriedly drove over to Gold’s Gym which was like 5 minutes from where I was running.  I quickly got on the treadmill and turned out another 3.5 miles.  So all in all, I got 5 miles in last night.  I actually felt great about it.  I suppose the adrenaline running through my body from running in complete terror carried over to my efforts on the treadmill and I booked it.  I really enjoyed my run last night.  I also love my music.  Here is my go-to playlist right now…I just hit shuffle and go.

There may be a duplicate song or two up there…just means I really like it 🙂  I was happy to get in a run longer than 3 miles because that’s all I’ve had time for lately.  Time…schedules…ugh…that’s a story for another day.  I hope y’all have a great Thursday…It’s a busy day for me after work.  DANCE PRACTICE!

PS.  I don’t know how some of you handle running in the dark.  Even if I had a flashlight, I’d still be terrified.  Kudos to you!

So, what is a sprint?

After I tackled another lovely Monday at the office, I taught a 30 minute spin class at Oxygen.  Here’s the playlist I used (not including the cool-down):

photo (8)Yes, I do realize I have some of the strangest names for my playlists on the planet.  Who names their playlist “Octoba?!”  The same girl that has one called “Summaaa Runnin'” and I can’t forget about “Spring Fevaaaa,” followed by embarrassing emojis.  Anyway, after class, I decided I needed to get some running in for the day.  I really wanted to run outside because the weather was feeling perfect but since it is getting dark earlier, I decided to head over to Gold’s and hit the treadmill.

I promised Matt I would be home by 8:30 for dinner so I was only able to get in about 3.5 miles.  I tried to make the most of it, though.  Which brings me to my next (first) question…what is a considered a sprint?  The fastest speed I hit last night was 7.4.  I have no idea if that’s good or bad.  But it felt good to me and it felt SAFE.  I’ve gone up to 8 before and thought “you may be that girl that slips and busts her face open in the middle of the gym.”  So I felt good at 7.4…not comfortable, but safe.  To me, that was a sprint.  I would run about a minute at that speed and back it off, over and over again.  So, was that sprinting?  I really have no idea.  I’m hoping you can guide me a bit here.

This morning, poor Matt had to get up for a 6 am meeting on his day off.  There was a good side of this though…he brought me home a sausage biscuit.  Big girl added a slice of cheese to it and put it in the microwave.  How could I say no?  He was being considerate…

So yeah, I just wanted to throw that random piece of information out there. Sausage biscuit.  I know, I floor you with my life.  Please, do tell, what’s the weirdest name of a playlist on your phone or iPod?!
