Van Gogh & Vino + Weekend Recap

Yes, I do realize it’s Wednesday and that the weekend recap is coming a little late.  Oh well…that’s life sometimes.  In any event, we had an AWESOME weekend.  Friday night, Megan and I went to Van Gogh & Vino.  Van Gogh & Vino is a painting studio for all ages and skill levels.  They offer painting classes and private parties for any occasion.  You get to paint and socialize in a relaxed setting as they teach step-by-step artist instructed classes.  That being said, check out how awesome this experience was:

Everyone in the class paints the same scene.  You can of course paint yours the way you like but since I was a virgin at this, I followed the instructor step-by-step.  My masterpiece is now placed in the living room as a Christmas decoration.  I might put it on eBay after the holidays…starting bid at $450,000. Whatcha think?!

But seriously, if there is something like this in your area, DO IT.  I can barely draw a smiley face–but check out what I did here.  You really can follow directions and come up with something not so terrible.

Saturday morning, I taught Ripped Ride and ate some lunch with Matt at the house afterwards.  Then we got ready for our first annual Friendsgiving at Presley’s house.  We had a really fun time, as always.

We ate, drank, and then the girls tried to escape and make it a girls’ night.  We were home within an hour.  Can we say old?  It’s actually really depressing.  But I know for me, I’m not good with spur of the moment plans.  If I’m going out, I plan for it like all week long.  Is that insane?  I guess I have to put myself in that frame of mind.

Sunday, we were completely lazy and it was awesome.  We got our Christmas decorations up and bought our cat children a new play thing.  It seriously made my day.  I know, it doesn’t take much.  But the best part of the weekend was just the fact that it wasn’t so fast-paced like the usual weekends.  I need to make sure I don’t try to cram so much into a 2-day time period.  I end up getting stressed and not giving myself any down-time.

Last night, I taught Ripped Ride and guess what?  I remembered my pants! Success.  Instead of posting my playlists from this weekend here, I have updated my other pages.  Check ’em out.

A lazy week. Well, not really.

It’s been a lazy week in my workout world–but not everywhere else.  I’ve been slammed at work this week so I’ve been working late and through lunches.  I’ve also been pretty productive at the house (which usually gets pushed to the side). After work today, I finally found my Halloween costume…

Then I came home and Matt made us breakfast for dinner.  I’m talkin’ the whole nine yards…pancakes, eggs, bacon, and cheese crescents.  It was so nice to eat dinner by like 7:30.  I’m usually just getting home from work and the gym by that time.  Then I have to shower and cook (well, I don’t actually do the cooking).  And it ends up being 9 pm before we eat dinner.  Yes, I do feel completely worthless this week as far as my body goes.  But my mind feels good.  I feel rested. My house is in some kind of order.  I’m prepared for the weekend–meaning I got my friend’s baby shower gifts ready to go and even ironed my outfit.  Yes, I said ironed.  (Plus, I know we are going out Friday and I won’t want to do it Saturday morning before the shower = GENIUS.)

I also went through some giant Rubbermaid containers on the hunt for Christmas gifts I put away last year.  I tend to buy a lot of stuff on clearance right after Christmas for the next year.  Problem is, I forget about it.  Well looky at what I found…

photo 2 (5)Bath & Body Works overload!  I love when I find goodies like this.  I won’t need to buy soap for a year.  And I already have little gifts ready to go for girlfriends and coworkers.

Well, time for me to get some rest.  I’m contemplating getting up early for a run–but not in the dark…at the gym.  We shall see.  No pressure.  I’m so tired of pressuring myself.  Mental health is important too.  I find, however, that it’s a catch 22.  I feel good mentally that I got a lot of things scratched off the to-do list this week.  On the flip side, I feel like complete crap mentally because in the back of my mind, I’m obsessing over how I look…the food I’ve eaten, the lack of cardio.  Everything.  And to put the cherry on top, we had a photo shoot for the Dancing with the Aiken Stars last week. Well I look like a complete moron in the picture that the group wants to use.  Seriously.  Everyone else is smiling and I’m doing some weird caught-me-in-the-middle-of-a-sentence duck face.  What the hell.  It’s on Facebook too, which is super nice.  I try to laugh it off.  I even told the ring leader that I didn’t care–it was all about what the majority of the group wanted to use.  I’m trying to play that whole confidence card.  Part of me really doesn’t give a crap while the other part of me is completely embarrassed.

Okay, I actually feel better that I got to put that out there.  I’ve been wanting to complain about that picture but I WON’T.  Gotta play that confidence card.  Is that healthy though?  I’m good at being fake, basically.

What I Love About September.

I feel like it’s been forever, guys.  Sorry, I have been working my butt off.  Not as in working out but as in actual job-work. In our little city, September brings fall, football, and good ol’ Aiken’s Makin’, a giant 2-day craft show.  In my last post, I discussed going to RPM Friday morning and not drinking margaritas…well I only drank one margarita but since I had to be at work at 7 am the next morning, RPM was a no-go.  My employer sponsors a kids’ activity section at the craft show so I was there both Friday and Saturday.  No, I wasn’t in the office and that was totally awesome.  But I was in the heat for 2 days and doing some physical labor which can totally kick your butt.  I did, however, get to take in some of the scenery…

photo (24)Pizza time!  I was totally grateful for this break.  It rejuvenated me and got me through the rest of the day.  The Georgia-Carolina game came on at 4:30 so you betta believe I made sure I was home by then.  I got home, got dressed, and we went to a friend’s house.  This game day get together included the parents too.

Yesterday, I seriously laid (lied?) in bed until 1:30 pm.  All of the exhaustion from work and playing over the weekend totally kicked my butt.  Sometimes you just really have to rest and be lazy.  After a day of doing nothing, it was time for one of my other favorite things about September…

Today, I had such a hard day…

photo (19)Ha, totally kidding.  September also brings about work golf events.  So I sat at Hole #18 for 5 hours while schmoozing and handing out marketing goodies. Some days, my job can be so awesome.

I taught Spin 30 tonight and came home to my hubs cooking dinner.  Thank. You.  This girl was hungry.  Now we are watching Life of Pi so I gotta run to catch the end.  I’ll post my playlist tomorrow.  What do you love about September?

Oh!  One more thing…tomorrow is our 2 year wedding anniversary!!  This year’s traditional gift is supposed to be cotton.  We shall see…

Quick update!

Hey guys!  I just wanted to throw out a quick update…it’s been a crazy week at work.  The consequences of getting a day off…right?!  But hey, totally worth it.

I taught a 30 minutes spin class Tuesday night and then hung around for an hour of Ripped Ride…I really needed that hour and a half of cardio after a long weekend filled with tailgating food, and they were both fun classes.

photo (44)Yesterday morning was so crazy that all I found for breakfast was a sugar cookie…of course I was starving all morning.  Thank goodness for my new batch of munchies for my “at-the-desk” snacks!  And yes, I keep 3 lb. dumbbells under my desk…ya just never know.

photo (46)Not crazy about the yogurt pretzels…they look better than they taste.  But I am completely obsessed with okra chips now.  Think I’ll try the green bean chips next!  Have you ever tried them?

My youngest brother and new sister-in-law.

They tied the knot yesterday in Tahoe, California.  My dad and stepmom are there.  I hated we couldn’t make the trip but dad was great about sending videos and pictures all day.

photo (43)Annnndddd this was the aftermath of 5:30 am Body Pump this morning!  I know what you’re thinking…dannnng she a dime!  But in all seriousness, I had a hard time in class.  #1–I was tired.  #2–I drank beer and split jalapeno poppers and a club sandwich with Matt last night.  #3–All I could think about was an appointment I had today at 9:30 and I couldn’t remember where or what for…I basically obsessed about it the entire hour.

I left thinking “was that even worth it?”  But I know it was.  At least somewhat.  My body will tell me later and I do feel more energized today.  I also knew I wouldn’t get a workout in tonight because we have dinner plans (ahh, the struggle…workout, food, workout, food).  So I plan to be at RPM tomorrow morning.  I say that…I need to remember that while we are at Mexican tonight.  NO MARGARITAS!!  🙂

Thursday thoughts.

photo (32)I couldn’t tell you one song Miranda Lambert sings but I can tell you that I love this quote.  I saw this on a friend’s Instagram yesterday and I had to nab it. Preach on, Miranda, preach on.  I am just not the type of girl to sacrifice my beer or chicken-fried steak either.  YOLO people…and yes, I did just say that. Don’t overdo it but damn, don’t make yourselves miserable.  I really don’t know why I brought this up.  I saw the quote and I know people that are way too miserable in life because they won’t indulge a little.  Like I said, YOLO.

photo (33)Damn you Miley, damn you.  Molly follows me everywhere now because of you. And yes, frugal Logan spent $10 on a car wash.  Look, my car was desperate, it was the only place around on my lunch break, and I get the hook-up all the time at the car wash.  Paying once won’t kill me…

On to more important things, I haven’t worked out since Tuesday.  My dad leaves for California tomorrow to go see my step-brother put a ring on it next week, so we spent some quality time together playing Golden Tee and knocking a few back.  I’ll sacrifice a workout for that time any day.  Especially when it’s with family.  I also won’t get a workout in tonight because I’ll be going to small group.  So it looks like I’ll be getting up for a 5:30 am class tomorrow!  (Side note: the link you may or may not have just clicked on has lost my pictures.  I don’t know what’s happened but if you choose to read the boring post without the pictures, I thank you.)

Oh, one other thing, my soul sister Presley  is looking for some running partners for the ZOOMA half in January.  The ZOOMA race was my first half and I absolutely loved it.  Lots of wine, champagne, snacks, massages, and recovery yoga afterwards.  This is totally the race for you.  Plus, Presley and I are a blast in a glass so we obviously had a great time.  Unfortunately, I won’t make it next year!  My step-brother (the one getting married) is also having a baby and they are due late January.  The race and their due date is just too close for comfort.  Matt and I are planning to get wind of the baby’s birth and hop on a plane to Texas the next weekend.  So, check out Presley’s blog for more ZOOMA info and a discount code for the race.  You won’t regret it!!

10 More Days!

That’s right…if you live in the South Carolina/Georgia area, you know exactly what I’m talking about…

Our house is super divided…I’m a Georgia fan and Matt is a Clemson fan.  To be honest, I would much rather live with a Clemson fan than a Carolina fan.  The Georgia/Carolina rivalry is way too intense for me to handle under one roof. We were really hoping to go to the game next weekend but we aren’t having any luck finding tickets that wouldn’t require us to sell an organ on the black market. This is a game I am dying to go to because Georgia and Clemson only play each other every 10 years!  But, we may just get together with friends and family (as I’m sure we will every Saturday until January) and watch the game as it should be watched–with friends, family, food, and lots of beer.

Okay, see, this is why I’m still weird about taking pictures of my food…I just think this is awkward.  I also feel awkward taking pictures of my food in public.  I know, bloggers do it all the time.  I’m just not there yet.  I feel so uncomfortable doing that.  “Wait!  Don’t touch your plate honey…I need to take a picture of it in a strange way so the entire restaurant thinks we’re weirdos.”  I’m sure I will get over it eventually.  Hell, give me a few drinks and I’ll be taking pictures of everything.  In any event, our sausage with peppers and onions was delish.  We even had enough leftover for me to make 2 lunches out of it!

Yesterday, my friend Nicole and I planned to meet up for zumba after work.  I ended up having to work late and had a really stressful day.  The air in our office went out and it was like 85 degrees in there all day so I was just fed up and ready for a few cold beers after all that.  It really is a struggle after a day like that…workout or go relax with a few cold ones?  I chose the latter.  I did, however, make myself get up for a 5:30 spin class this morning.  Yay me!  I knew I wouldn’t be able to work out tonight because we are going to a birthday dinner, so I would have really been feeling bad about myself going 3 days with no workout.  Plus, I woke up from an insane dream and couldn’t go back to sleep. All I will tell you about my dream was it involved being woken up by the house alarm going off, Matt walking around the house with a weapon, me going to potty while he looked for the intruder, and then I found the intruder…an old lady was hiding in the shower and grabbed my neck while I was sitting on the toilet.  I kept trying to yell for Mathew but couldn’t catch my breath.  So “daddy” came out…what. the. hell.  Okay, so yeah, I just told you the entire dream.

I left spin a few minutes early, which I hate to do, but I had to get back home to get ready for work.  I think morning instructors understand that.  It doesn’t look like I’ll be teaching any spin classes this week–just taking them!  Oh and, my (cough cough, area) was still hurting as I sat on the bike this morning.  Again, I suck at riding real bikes.

It was nice to get up and get my day started.  I felt more energized this morning but I seem to be struggling this afternoon, hence the reason I’m drinking a Monster as we speak (or type).  I know, I know, I shouldn’t drink those.  To each their own.  I know I said I wanted to start working out in the morning twice a week.  Well, I’ve worked out in the morning twice in three weeks.  Hey, some progress is better than no progress, right?!  Anyway, like I mentioned earlier, we are off to Bonefish tonight to celebrate my cousin’s boyfriend’s birthday.  I am ready to tear into some Bang Bang Shrimp!  Maybe I’ll workout in the morning… 🙂

Back in My Groove

Whew, we made it through another Monday.  I always think, what if Monday was named something else?…would it still be dreaded as much?  Answer to that is yes.  I know, stupid thought.  Anyway, I woke up feeling like myself again today and I knew I had plenty to catch up on at work.  Despite meetings all afternoon, I got a lot accomplished.

Yesterday, Matt and I went for a bike ride after church and lunch.  I know I teach spin as part of my living, but I totally suck at riding a real bike.  It’s like I am seven years old all over again every single time.  Matt always makes fun of me.  He doesn’t understand how I can teach spin but not ride a real bike very well.  It’s completely different, obviously.  And because your posture is so much different on a spin bike than a mountain bike (or maybe I just have no idea what I’m doing), my (cough cough…area) and back were killing me instantly.  It was my idea though, so I sucked it up and off we went…

ImageYes, your eyes are not deceiving you.  I am sporting a Michelob Ultra bike.  I wish I could say that they really like my investment in their product and offered me this bike as a token of their appreciation, but no, Matt won it in a golf tournament.  It’s not a bad bike…pretty snazzy if I say so myself.Image

After our bike ride, we grabbed our coupon book and hit up our favorite Mexican place.  After not eating much for a few days, I was having a serious craving.  Matt wanted to cook at home but after some sad faces and pouting, he caved 🙂

Today, I got a lot done at work and decided to go visit with one of my best friends and her niece.  I haven’t seen Mayci since she was just born last October so I was due for a visit!
