My favorite place on Earth…

Sanford Stadium is by far my favorite place on Earth.  I’ve traveled abroad, seen beautiful places, but Sanford Stadium is MY favorite place to be.  Matt and I, along with another couple, went to Athens Saturday to watch the Dawgs play Kentucky.  The only bad part = 7 pm game combined with cold temperatures.  I love night games…but not November night games.  The weather during the day was perfect.  Not too cold, not too hot.  We had a great time.  And of course, the Dawgs won.  Unfortunately, that sweet, good-looking Aaron Murray wasn’t able to finish his last home game as a UGA football player.  Actually, he wasn’t able to finish his last game of his college career at all due to tearing his ACL.  In any event…

calli cold

Yeah, it was COLD.

The couple with us got engaged last week…YAY! (I definitely told them “may God be with you” 🙂

Where is YOUR favorite place on Earth??  What makes it awesome??

The next day, Matt and I had lunch, went grocery shopping, and then I had a spin class to teach.  Here is the playlist I used:

photo 2 (2) photo 1 (2)Yes, as you can see, I do love Miley’s new album.  Despite what the critics say, I think this girl is a genius.  Yes, she needs to class it up a bit.  But as an artist, she has made some bold but beneficial decisions.  I mean, think about it, we are all still talking about what a tragic mess she is, right?!  My point exactly.  PS. Watch The Miley Movement if you haven’t already.  Might change your mind 🙂

I’ll be teaching a Ripped Ride class tonight, so I will have another playlist for you tomorrow with some new songs I am trying out.  I know we all have a busy week ahead of us with Thanksgiving in just a few days.  I’m looking forward to a lot of things later this week…lots of food and family time Wednesday & Thursday, Van Gogh & Vino session with my cousin Friday night (she convinced me that they CAN teach me how to paint), and our first annual Friendsgiving with Presley on Saturday.  This event also requires me to make a few dishes for our dinner–can I just bring the booze?!  🙂

I’m practically a star now…

Dancing With the Aiken Stars was last night!!  You guys have heard me talk about it for months now.  We finally performed last night and get this…WE WON!  Okay, we didn’t win the whole shebang which is based on the number of votes you get, but we did win Judge’s Choice which I think is kinda better…simply because they are basing their judgment on performance.  The votes have been coming in for months now so they weren’t only based on performance. Anyway, I felt like a total diva last night.  I failed miserably at taking pictures but I was just so pumped up and freaking out at the same time, that I didn’t even worry with a camera.  I did take this post- performance awesome selfie with Megan in the dressing room (aka locker room).

photo (3)Megan and her sister, along with my parents and Matt, came out to show some love.  My coworkers also made giant neon colored signs and were a phenomenal support group.  There were actually 3 of us from the same company participating last night so we had a lot of people come out to see us.

As much as I bitched and complained about this experience–the money spent, the time consuming aspect–I would do it all over again.  Not only did we help raise money for a wonderful cause, we freakin’ rocked.  I got to know some of my colleagues in such a different way and we enjoyed spending time together. I’m actually going to miss that.  Now that dance practice won’t be consuming my evenings, I’m ready to get back in the spin & weight training game.  I am teaching spin this Sunday and I’m really looking forward to it.

Tomorrow, we are headed to Athens to watch the Dawgs play.  It’s a 7 pm game…Lord help me.  We might freeze and teaching spin after a night like we will have tomorrow maaaaay not be the brightest idea I’ve ever had.  But it will happen. Well, I’m off to munch on work-Thanksgiving leftovers.  There is basically no reason for me to worry about eating right at this point.  I look forward to this kind of eating all year long!

Quick Weekend Recap

Long time, no chat!  I have been crazy busy lately–more so than usual–especially at work.  So here is a quick recap of what we did this weekend…

photo (2)

Friday night, I attended a friend’s rehearsal dinner.  My friend Nicole (left) was a bridesmaid in the wedding and she asked me to be her date.

photo 5

Delicious shrimp & grits for dinner.

Y’all know how awkward I feel taking pictures of my food.  Well, this plate sure looked pretty.  And I had 3 glasses of wine by this point…YOLO.

photo (2)

Saturday, Matt and I headed to Clemson, along with Matt’s buddy Chunky, for some tailgating and ticket-finding.  Thankfully we didn’t buy any tickets. They were super pricey and Clemson got clobbered.  We had an awesome time though.  It was actually a really bad Saturday for college football–Georgia, Clemson, and South Carolina all lost…although, I’m not all that upset about Carolina’s loss…

photo 2 photo 3Like I said, so much fun.  We met up with some old buddies from high school that don’t live nearby anymore.  I’ve known most of these guys since elementary school.  It was nice to catch up.  And yes, I was the only girl around.  Good thing I’m like one of the guys.

Sunday, I headed to my friend’s church to help set up for a fall festival they were hosting.

photo 1Then I headed over to the gym for the 90 minute spin class we were having with proceeds benefiting a local charity. THEN, it was off to dance practice.  I didn’t get a chance to slow down at all this weekend, so last night, I kept it low key.  My body was in pain from 90 minutes of spinning AND an hour of dance practice. So I opted to stay in and try to transition my summer wardrobe to the attic and get my fall apparel put in the closet.  I’m half way there. Matt and I also went Halloween costume shopping and had some fun poking at inappropriate costumes.  Yes we wait until the last minute.  Oh, by the way, am I the ONLY chick that doesn’t believe in dressing like a complete hooch for Halloween? Geez, we aren’t in college anymore.  Cover.  It.  Up.

Okay…I’m off to a Chamber lunch now.  I hope y’all are having a good week!!

Let’s Get Personal…

This is probably the most personal post I’ve ever written.  Not sure how I feel about opening up this much but hey, I need a therapy session and I’m broke.  So here goes…

This weekend was full of fun times, let downs, fun times again, let downs again, and then some reflecting on my part. Friday was so much fun.  We celebrated Bess’ birthday and everyone had a great time.

photo (56)

Disregard the burrito eating. Boys and pictures…

As you all know, I was supposed to run a 5k Saturday morning.  Well, I’m not going to get into the details but we had a family emergency that kept me up half the night and the race never happened for me.  I also ended up with a dead cell phone and no charger so I didn’t wake up in time to tell my friends that were running with me what was going on.  I literally called them 6 minutes before the race began.  They were completely understanding but I was a basket case all morning.  I felt like I had let my friends down.  It seriously ate a hole through me.  I know that things happen.  And that’s what I have to remind myself…things are going to happen that are out of my control.  There is nothing I can do and I have to learn a better way to deal with that.  After balling my eyes out and running around the house thinking I could make it to the race in 6 minutes, I hung up the running shorts and knew I had failed…at least that’s how I felt. Then I began to obsess about “what would I say on the blog?”  “What do I tell people who ask how the race went?”  I came to the conclusion of who freakin’ cares.  I don’t have to explain anything if I don’t want to and so now here I am trying to explain…oh the irony.

Despite the madness and tears, I also had other people depending on me and Matt to go to a football game.  So I hopped in the shower and out the door we went.  I’m glad I had to keep moving; otherwise, I would have probably been a cry baby all day and just brought myself down more.  The game was fun.  It just rained practically all day and kinda put a damper on the day…

photo (57)

Thankful for dresses like this…they dry quickly!

photo (55)

The stands started emptying out when the rain got heavy…

photo (58)

Rain or no rain, still my favorite place on earth.

photo (6)

Matt–the ultimate creepy photobomber.

photo (59)After the game, we found a good spot to eat and decided to head on home.  We had every intention of being 20-somethings in downtown Athens but we were tired, damp, and ready for clean, comfy clothes.  Matt and I ended up in bed at 8 pm and didn’t move until around 10:30 the next morning.  We have done that for the last 2 Saturday nights and I can truly say it feels awesome.  It’s quality time together and we get to recharge for the week ahead.

Yesterday, I went through another inside-Logan’s-head-battle and finally cried enough to convince Matt to make me breakfast 🙂  The inner battle I constantly face is people-pleasing.  I don’t want this post to get too long so I am going to focus on priorities more next time but I think I really need to evaluate who I place in my life and where I place them. Right now, this is what I believe the pecking order looks like:

  • Family
  • Friends
  • Matt
  • Me
  • God

Work and gym fit in there somewhere too.  Probably around the “me” line.  But this is what I believe my pecking order should look like:

  • God
  • Matt
  • Me
  • Family
  • Friends

I focus so much on making sure other people happy that I don’t focus on what’s actually important in my life.  I don’t focus on the one person who should get my full attention–my husband.  I’ve always been a people-pleaser and I have always cared way too much about what people think–did what I say hurt their feelings? Did what I say make them mad?  Did me cancelling that plan hinder my friendship with that person?  Yes, people should care about those things to an extent but I OBSESS about them.  Some people don’t care about that stuff at all. Anyway, I don’t want to get into this too much in one post so until next time…does anyone have any advice?  Or does anyone understand where I’m coming from?  Come on y’all, this was totally a pity party post…make me feel better 😉

On a positive note, I’ve had a great Monday and I hope you have too.  And one thing that has kept me positive today is something a friend told me yesterday…don’t dwell on what you didn’t do right today or if you didn’t do enough–focus on how you can make tomorrow better.

It’s the weekend baby! & time to race…

It’s Friday…it’s payday…and it’s the day before race day…

I told y’all that I ran on Tuesday…I have been sore ever since!  Muscles that haven’t been activated in quite some time have been screaming at me for 2 days. I wanted to get another short run in this week before the race but since I’ve been so sore, I opted out.  I definitely don’t want to be sore for the race tomorrow.  I feel like such a wimp…I worked so hard last year to train for 2 half-marathons and now I can barely run 3 miles without whining.  Oh well, I knew what the consequences would be of taking time off and now I’m living and breathing them.  Just gotta keep moving forward!

The race tomorrow is being held to benefit a local resident who was involved in a terrible attack a few months ago.  I have a feeling much of our town will show up in support.

So, now that it’s almost race time, I have to prepare.  I have my “outfit” picked out including the matching headband, my GPS is charging, chap stick, knee strap and body glide are on deck, and my playlist is ready to go.  Oh, and I also have to chew gum while I run.  Don’t come at me with your safety stuff…I know.  But it’s a thing.  What are your race day essentials?  Do you have a weird (or let’s say ‘odd’) routine before or while racing?

As soon as the race is over, I have to haul my tail to the house for a quick shower and a possible blow-drying of the hair.  We have a 12:30 football game to get to! Needless to say, I won’t be sticking around for awards and stuff but it’s not like I’m going to win anything.  That’s not what my goal is anyway.  I’m not being negative but winning isn’t my goal–I know I don’t work hard enough to actually win and that’s totally okay with me!  If I finish in under 30 minutes, I’m a happy girl–that is my goal. Tonight, we head to the usual Mexican where I WILL NOT partake in margarita drinking…maybe a beer or two.  And we will be celebrating Bess’ birthday.

The birthday girl is on the far right.

The birthday girl is on the far left.

I need to be on my best behavior so I will feel up and at it in the AM.  However, on a side note, I did run my second 5K after drinking too much wine one night…it actually helped me detox 😉

In any event, I can’t wait to be at my favorite place in the world tomorrow…

Time to Regroup & Refocus.

It’s almost that time of the week…half way there.  I am super pumped for this weekend.  Not only am I running my first race since my last half-marathon in February, but we are headed to Athens to see the Bulldogs play.  Basically, that means I have to run a quick 5K and get my butt home and in the shower ASAP…it’s a 12:30 game!  But that’s alright…we will make it in time to tailgate for an hour or so and then we can hit downtown Athens after the game.  This game is a way for us to celebrate a friend’s birthday…so I can’t wait for Saturday.

Since this is my first race in 7 months, you can guess what I haven’t been doing…if you guessed running, I’m buying you a cheeseburger.  The last time I hit the pavement was about a month ago.  So yeah, this oughta be an interesting race.  I did come home from work today and decided I would get at least 3 miles in to make sure I wouldn’t actually die on Saturday.  I made 3.17 miles.  But I won’t tell you my time.

photo (33)

It wasn’t terrible but definitely not what I’m used to.  I have a feeling, though, that I’ll get my butt in gear on Saturday.  Races always push you a little harder.

Speaking of races, it really is time to get my butt in gear.  I have a 5K this weekend, the Pretty Muddy Mud Run in October, and then a half-marathon in November.  Yep…it’s time to start training…I’m totally behind.  I guess I keep thinking that since I’ve done it twice before, I can do it again.  But what I’ve found out about running is once you stop, or slow down, it’s hard as HELL to get yourself back together.  I really hope the 5K this weekend will give me the motivation to start getting some long runs in.  Otherwise, the Savannah half is going to be a comical disaster…

Last night I taught Spin30…here’s my playlist and what I looked like aftewards:

photo (4)photo (51)Not that you necessarily care what I looked like afterwards…I just have a thing about pictures.  And I wanted to prove that I sweat like an overweight football player.

By the way, I have started posting updates to my Spinning page on the blog so check it out from time to time for playlists and routines.  I’ll leave you with this flattering photo…this is how I decided to relax after work, running, and dinner. A little homemade wine while sitting in the bed ain’t never hurt nobody 😉

photo (34)How did you relax tonight?  And if you didn’t, make a date for yourself this week!

What I Love About September.

I feel like it’s been forever, guys.  Sorry, I have been working my butt off.  Not as in working out but as in actual job-work. In our little city, September brings fall, football, and good ol’ Aiken’s Makin’, a giant 2-day craft show.  In my last post, I discussed going to RPM Friday morning and not drinking margaritas…well I only drank one margarita but since I had to be at work at 7 am the next morning, RPM was a no-go.  My employer sponsors a kids’ activity section at the craft show so I was there both Friday and Saturday.  No, I wasn’t in the office and that was totally awesome.  But I was in the heat for 2 days and doing some physical labor which can totally kick your butt.  I did, however, get to take in some of the scenery…

photo (22)

Yes, I totally had a corn dog at 10:30 Saturday morning…how could you not?!

photo (21)On Saturday, I was able to get a bit of a break and Mrs. Presley and her stud muffin met up with me for some fun…

photo (23)

Wait, no, that’s not her stud muffin. Just some random at the ATM…I just thought it was funny.

photo (24)Pizza time!  I was totally grateful for this break.  It rejuvenated me and got me through the rest of the day.  The Georgia-Carolina game came on at 4:30 so you betta believe I made sure I was home by then.  I got home, got dressed, and we went to a friend’s house.  This game day get together included the parents too.

photo (25)

Dad, Megan, & Me

We had an awesome night.  The Dawgs pulled out the W and we celebrated (maybe a little too much).  I also gotta show off my awesome new koozie that Megan got me…

photo (20)I don’t know if you can tell but uhhhh, this thing is sparklin’ something serious.

Yesterday, I seriously laid (lied?) in bed until 1:30 pm.  All of the exhaustion from work and playing over the weekend totally kicked my butt.  Sometimes you just really have to rest and be lazy.  After a day of doing nothing, it was time for one of my other favorite things about September…

photo (26)Yes sir!  Nucky is back!  We love this show.

Today, I had such a hard day…

photo (19)Ha, totally kidding.  September also brings about work golf events.  So I sat at Hole #18 for 5 hours while schmoozing and handing out marketing goodies. Some days, my job can be so awesome.

I taught Spin 30 tonight and came home to my hubs cooking dinner.  Thank. You.  This girl was hungry.  Now we are watching Life of Pi so I gotta run to catch the end.  I’ll post my playlist tomorrow.  What do you love about September?

Oh!  One more thing…tomorrow is our 2 year wedding anniversary!!  This year’s traditional gift is supposed to be cotton.  We shall see…
