How The Grinch Restored Christmas

Happy Friday, y’all.  We made it.  It has been a looooong week.  Guess we were spoiled by the holiday last week, huh? This morning, I was up and at ’em early for a Chamber breakfast.  There is a program or speaker each month and for December, the Chamber always promotes the importance of supporting non-profit organizations, especially during this time of year.  Today, the program was How The Grinch Restored Christmas.  Organizations such as Golden Harvest Food Bank and The Salvation Army all participated in telling us a wonderful Christmas story.

Stink, stank, stunk!

This was one sexy Grinch.  All of the participants did a wonderful job and it was a great way to start a Friday.  They told such a sweet story and it’s true…we really do need to remember that non-profits need our support more than ever.  I’m a firm believer in charitable giving.  I also believe you have to do your research on the organization first!

Anyway, I thought I would share some really random facts with you today. There is absolutely nothing substantial to read here so feel free to stop reading.

This is what my hair looks like if I don’t straighten it.

Yummy.

Yummy.

Cats, 1.  Water bottle, 0.  We reached a record in our household, though.  The tree skirt stayed down for 3 whole days this year!  We are usually lucky to have it down for 30 minutes before they start their decoration destruction.  I felt like a winning mom when I put the water bottle down in front of the tree skirt this year.  I thought I had found a sure-fire solution to our decoration destruction problem.  You made it 3 days, cat mom.  Good job.

My husband is a damn good cook.  He brought the Japanese to the house last night.  And by “brought,” I mean he actually made it.  Fresh veggies and all.  He even bought some Yum Yum Sauce.  You know, white sauce at the Japanese restaurant.  This could have been healthy…until I drowned it in Yum Yum.

photo 5 (3)

And this is my cool new trivet.  I ordered this from a coworker’s kid.  I actually think I purchased this with the intent of gifting it but I realized it’s super cool and I need it.  We really do need more than one trivet.  Especially with all that cooking I do…

All the wine I drank in order to get these corks was well worth it.  See, start projects that need you to drink.  That’s the key…but drink responsibly.

Well, that’s a wrap for me today.  One of my very dear friends, Beth, gave birth to her second sweet baby girl this morning.  Emily weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces, and has a head full of curly dark hair.  I can’t wait to meet her after work today! Have a great Friday 🙂

Thanksgiving: The Day I Inhaled a Small Child.

Sounds gross, but it’s true–okay, you know what I mean.  Seriously, yesterday, I ate so much that I thought I was going to be sick at one point.  I didn’t mean to. It just happened.  I also thought my stomach would explode and had trouble getting up from couches.  I realized that I don’t ever want to feel that way again until I’m extremely pregnant. I didn’t even remotely try to behave myself.  The food was there…it was yelling my name.  It was lonely.  Someone had to come to the rescue…

photo 1 (4)This was my very first plate of Thanksgiving from Mom’s on Wednesday night.  I was so glad to be able to eat somewhere Wednesday night.  Three meals yesterday would have certainly killed me.  Mom made a jam-up meal. You can guess that I made not one single thing.  I was supposed to be helping but I was too busy drinking wine and looking through old photo albums.  Mom didn’t mind–I was there.  That’s all she cared about.

Yesterday, we went to my Uncle’s house for lunch (well, 3:30 meal) and ate the BEST turkey.  Seriously, this man knows his cookin’.  I’ve had a lot of turkey experiences and I’m here to tell ya that fried turkey is the way to go.  Baked turkey is so dry that I have to drown it in gravy to get it down.  But this fried turkey was to die for.  We had eaten almost all the skin off before it was time to eat…whoops.  He fried 2 different turkeys: one with cajun seasoning and one full of Italian dressing and seasoning.  We actually never ate the latter.  Cajun is where it’s at.

photo 3 (3) photo 2 (4)My cousin Gracie (the tall one) is in town from Lander.  She’s the awesome volleyball player I told y’all about.  This is my cousin Lexi (Megan’s sister), Gracie, our Papa (dad’s dad), and me.  I think Megan was inside cooking.  Sorry Megs, we were having too much fun playing to actually be productive.

photo (4)

I gave my Papa that sweater 25 years ago!!

What’s funny is that even though I’m an “adult” now, I still act like a big kid, especially on holidays.  Like I think I’m supposed to help cook and clean up now that I’m an adult buuuuut I just end up opting out.  Maybe when we have dinners at our house, things will be different.  Until then, I’m going to remain a big kid. Plus, I think the parents/grandparents still actually enjoy taking care of me 🙂

We headed over to Matt’s dad’s house around 6.  Whew…after this meal, I was donezo.  I really only got like a spoonful of a few things.  I’m just the type that will eat something at each house because otherwise, I feel rude. Anyone else with me on that?  I mean, it’s common courtesy.  We were there about 2 hours and I told Mathew we had to leave…I couldn’t keep those jeans on any longer without thinking they were actually going to cut into my gut.

Today, I feel large and in-charge.  And I’m so ready to detox.  But wait!  We have Friendsgiving tomorrow.  Guess that whole detox thing will just have to wait…

By the way, kudos to all of you that ran races and worked out yesterday.  You rock!!

A lazy week. Well, not really.

It’s been a lazy week in my workout world–but not everywhere else.  I’ve been slammed at work this week so I’ve been working late and through lunches.  I’ve also been pretty productive at the house (which usually gets pushed to the side). After work today, I finally found my Halloween costume…

photo 1 (6)Bet you can’t guess who I’m going to be…

Then I came home and Matt made us breakfast for dinner.  I’m talkin’ the whole nine yards…pancakes, eggs, bacon, and cheese crescents.  It was so nice to eat dinner by like 7:30.  I’m usually just getting home from work and the gym by that time.  Then I have to shower and cook (well, I don’t actually do the cooking).  And it ends up being 9 pm before we eat dinner.  Yes, I do feel completely worthless this week as far as my body goes.  But my mind feels good.  I feel rested. My house is in some kind of order.  I’m prepared for the weekend–meaning I got my friend’s baby shower gifts ready to go and even ironed my outfit.  Yes, I said ironed.  (Plus, I know we are going out Friday and I won’t want to do it Saturday morning before the shower = GENIUS.)

I also went through some giant Rubbermaid containers on the hunt for Christmas gifts I put away last year.  I tend to buy a lot of stuff on clearance right after Christmas for the next year.  Problem is, I forget about it.  Well looky at what I found…

photo 2 (5)Bath & Body Works overload!  I love when I find goodies like this.  I won’t need to buy soap for a year.  And I already have little gifts ready to go for girlfriends and coworkers.

Well, time for me to get some rest.  I’m contemplating getting up early for a run–but not in the dark…at the gym.  We shall see.  No pressure.  I’m so tired of pressuring myself.  Mental health is important too.  I find, however, that it’s a catch 22.  I feel good mentally that I got a lot of things scratched off the to-do list this week.  On the flip side, I feel like complete crap mentally because in the back of my mind, I’m obsessing over how I look…the food I’ve eaten, the lack of cardio.  Everything.  And to put the cherry on top, we had a photo shoot for the Dancing with the Aiken Stars last week. Well I look like a complete moron in the picture that the group wants to use.  Seriously.  Everyone else is smiling and I’m doing some weird caught-me-in-the-middle-of-a-sentence duck face.  What the hell.  It’s on Facebook too, which is super nice.  I try to laugh it off.  I even told the ring leader that I didn’t care–it was all about what the majority of the group wanted to use.  I’m trying to play that whole confidence card.  Part of me really doesn’t give a crap while the other part of me is completely embarrassed.

Okay, I actually feel better that I got to put that out there.  I’ve been wanting to complain about that picture but I WON’T.  Gotta play that confidence card.  Is that healthy though?  I’m good at being fake, basically.

So, what is a sprint?

After I tackled another lovely Monday at the office, I taught a 30 minute spin class at Oxygen.  Here’s the playlist I used (not including the cool-down):

photo (8)Yes, I do realize I have some of the strangest names for my playlists on the planet.  Who names their playlist “Octoba?!”  The same girl that has one called “Summaaa Runnin'” and I can’t forget about “Spring Fevaaaa,” followed by embarrassing emojis.  Anyway, after class, I decided I needed to get some running in for the day.  I really wanted to run outside because the weather was feeling perfect but since it is getting dark earlier, I decided to head over to Gold’s and hit the treadmill.

I promised Matt I would be home by 8:30 for dinner so I was only able to get in about 3.5 miles.  I tried to make the most of it, though.  Which brings me to my next (first) question…what is a considered a sprint?  The fastest speed I hit last night was 7.4.  I have no idea if that’s good or bad.  But it felt good to me and it felt SAFE.  I’ve gone up to 8 before and thought “you may be that girl that slips and busts her face open in the middle of the gym.”  So I felt good at 7.4…not comfortable, but safe.  To me, that was a sprint.  I would run about a minute at that speed and back it off, over and over again.  So, was that sprinting?  I really have no idea.  I’m hoping you can guide me a bit here.

This morning, poor Matt had to get up for a 6 am meeting on his day off.  There was a good side of this though…he brought me home a sausage biscuit.  Big girl added a slice of cheese to it and put it in the microwave.  How could I say no?  He was being considerate…

So yeah, I just wanted to throw that random piece of information out there. Sausage biscuit.  I know, I floor you with my life.  Please, do tell, what’s the weirdest name of a playlist on your phone or iPod?!

What I Love About September.

I feel like it’s been forever, guys.  Sorry, I have been working my butt off.  Not as in working out but as in actual job-work. In our little city, September brings fall, football, and good ol’ Aiken’s Makin’, a giant 2-day craft show.  In my last post, I discussed going to RPM Friday morning and not drinking margaritas…well I only drank one margarita but since I had to be at work at 7 am the next morning, RPM was a no-go.  My employer sponsors a kids’ activity section at the craft show so I was there both Friday and Saturday.  No, I wasn’t in the office and that was totally awesome.  But I was in the heat for 2 days and doing some physical labor which can totally kick your butt.  I did, however, get to take in some of the scenery…

photo (22)

Yes, I totally had a corn dog at 10:30 Saturday morning…how could you not?!

photo (21)On Saturday, I was able to get a bit of a break and Mrs. Presley and her stud muffin met up with me for some fun…

photo (23)

Wait, no, that’s not her stud muffin. Just some random at the ATM…I just thought it was funny.

photo (24)Pizza time!  I was totally grateful for this break.  It rejuvenated me and got me through the rest of the day.  The Georgia-Carolina game came on at 4:30 so you betta believe I made sure I was home by then.  I got home, got dressed, and we went to a friend’s house.  This game day get together included the parents too.

Dad, Megan, & Me

We had an awesome night.  The Dawgs pulled out the W and we celebrated (maybe a little too much).  I also gotta show off my awesome new koozie that Megan got me…

photo (20)I don’t know if you can tell but uhhhh, this thing is sparklin’ something serious.

Yesterday, I seriously laid (lied?) in bed until 1:30 pm.  All of the exhaustion from work and playing over the weekend totally kicked my butt.  Sometimes you just really have to rest and be lazy.  After a day of doing nothing, it was time for one of my other favorite things about September…

photo (26)Yes sir!  Nucky is back!  We love this show.

Today, I had such a hard day…

photo (19)Ha, totally kidding.  September also brings about work golf events.  So I sat at Hole #18 for 5 hours while schmoozing and handing out marketing goodies. Some days, my job can be so awesome.

I taught Spin 30 tonight and came home to my hubs cooking dinner.  Thank. You.  This girl was hungry.  Now we are watching Life of Pi so I gotta run to catch the end.  I’ll post my playlist tomorrow.  What do you love about September?

Oh!  One more thing…tomorrow is our 2 year wedding anniversary!!  This year’s traditional gift is supposed to be cotton.  We shall see…

What I’ve learned so far…

Before I get to the point of this post, I want to share my playlist from yesterday’s Ripped Ride class…

photo (1) photo (31)I’ll post the specifics for each song later…we had a great class!

So, I have been blogging since July 2nd…almost at the two month mark.  It seems like much longer already!  But I wanted to reflect on a few things I have learned and noticed over the last two months.  It’s a short list but I think it will be interesting to see how it grows in the future…

  1. People like pictures.  Okay, like pictures.  A lot.  One thing I can’t stand is to read a lengthy post with no pictures.  I’m like a child…didn’t you want to read all the books with pictures when you were little?  I don’t think that changes much as we get older.  I don’t care if it’s a picture of the sky.  Or a selfie.  (We all know you take selfies in the car…)
  2. People like food.  This is one area that I need to work on…but hey, I never said my blog would be about eating healthy or recipes.  I. Don’t. Cook.  I’m like the wife from Talladega Nights, except I’m not as rich, hot, or bitchy.  People love recipes and seeing pictures of food.  I do have a folder in my email where I save most of your posts with good recipes (by good, I mean those that my husband and I would consider eating).  In the back of my mind, though, I know I may not ever refer to them.  Not because I don’t like them or appreciate the effort you put in to sharing them…but because i. don’t. cook.  One day…one day…
  3. People like real.  It is obviously hard to get to know someone via blog posts…so don’t make it all about the fitness or all about the diet.  I want to get to know you outside of all that.  Maybe I’m just creepy.  We all have an intended focus for our blogs but it’s okay to sometimes go outside of that realm.  The only thing that I am keeping off limits with my blog is my marriage.  It could be the best relationship in the world but you won’t read much about it.  That’s just something I don’t feel should be shared with a bunch of strangers, even if I feel like I know some of you.  Some people say wayyyy too much via social media about their spouse and marriage and it causes problems.  I’m sorry, good or bad, sharing it with the world via social media includes very fine boundaries.  Now, what I do like are success stories.  Those can be inspiring.  So, your marriage fell off track and you fixed it? Great, you may help others that are in your previous position.  Pissed off at your spouse and want to bad-mouth them? Keep that off the internet.  It’s called respect.  If you’re doing it in a joking manner, that’s one thing.  But I think you guys know what I’m talking about.  No one likes a Debbie Downer, a Negative Nancy, a Fun Sucker…okay, I’ll stop.

Like I said, it’s a short list.  And this is just what I’ve noticed over the last two months that like (and dislike) about blogging…you may completely disagree and that’s fine.  Please tell me about it, whether you agree or not! (Seriously though, just give me pictures.  I’m like a child…why do you think I’m addicted to Instagram and not Facebook?  Pictures, people, pictures! :)) Happy Hump Hump Hump Day!!

10 More Days!

That’s right…if you live in the South Carolina/Georgia area, you know exactly what I’m talking about…

photo (19)

Our house is super divided…I’m a Georgia fan and Matt is a Clemson fan.  To be honest, I would much rather live with a Clemson fan than a Carolina fan.  The Georgia/Carolina rivalry is way too intense for me to handle under one roof. We were really hoping to go to the game next weekend but we aren’t having any luck finding tickets that wouldn’t require us to sell an organ on the black market. This is a game I am dying to go to because Georgia and Clemson only play each other every 10 years!  But, we may just get together with friends and family (as I’m sure we will every Saturday until January) and watch the game as it should be watched–with friends, family, food, and lots of beer.

On another random note, this is what Chef Spires made for dinner Monday night…

photo (20)

Okay, see, this is why I’m still weird about taking pictures of my food…I just think this is awkward.  I also feel awkward taking pictures of my food in public.  I know, bloggers do it all the time.  I’m just not there yet.  I feel so uncomfortable doing that.  “Wait!  Don’t touch your plate honey…I need to take a picture of it in a strange way so the entire restaurant thinks we’re weirdos.”  I’m sure I will get over it eventually.  Hell, give me a few drinks and I’ll be taking pictures of everything.  In any event, our sausage with peppers and onions was delish.  We even had enough leftover for me to make 2 lunches out of it!

Yesterday, my friend Nicole and I planned to meet up for zumba after work.  I ended up having to work late and had a really stressful day.  The air in our office went out and it was like 85 degrees in there all day so I was just fed up and ready for a few cold beers after all that.  It really is a struggle after a day like that…workout or go relax with a few cold ones?  I chose the latter.  I did, however, make myself get up for a 5:30 spin class this morning.  Yay me!  I knew I wouldn’t be able to work out tonight because we are going to a birthday dinner, so I would have really been feeling bad about myself going 3 days with no workout.  Plus, I woke up from an insane dream and couldn’t go back to sleep. All I will tell you about my dream was it involved being woken up by the house alarm going off, Matt walking around the house with a weapon, me going to potty while he looked for the intruder, and then I found the intruder…an old lady was hiding in the shower and grabbed my neck while I was sitting on the toilet.  I kept trying to yell for Mathew but couldn’t catch my breath.  So “daddy” came out…what. the. hell.  Okay, so yeah, I just told you the entire dream.

I left spin a few minutes early, which I hate to do, but I had to get back home to get ready for work.  I think morning instructors understand that.  It doesn’t look like I’ll be teaching any spin classes this week–just taking them!  Oh and, my (cough cough, area) was still hurting as I sat on the bike this morning.  Again, I suck at riding real bikes.

It was nice to get up and get my day started.  I felt more energized this morning but I seem to be struggling this afternoon, hence the reason I’m drinking a Monster as we speak (or type).  I know, I know, I shouldn’t drink those.  To each their own.  I know I said I wanted to start working out in the morning twice a week.  Well, I’ve worked out in the morning twice in three weeks.  Hey, some progress is better than no progress, right?!  Anyway, like I mentioned earlier, we are off to Bonefish tonight to celebrate my cousin’s boyfriend’s birthday.  I am ready to tear into some Bang Bang Shrimp!  Maybe I’ll workout in the morning… 🙂
